The READ.LEARN.SUCCEED. volunteer opportunity is now open!

This year, READ.LEARN.SUCCEED. has a new schedule! The program will take place over 10 consecutive weeks from October through December, excluding Thanksgiving Break.

Volunteer Readers and Pen-Friends are paired with local students to help them practice and strengthen their reading and writing skills while building confidence and supporting their path toward school success.

From a full day on the course to plenty of laughs along the way, our inaugural Enviro Rentals United Way NELA Golf Tournament was one for the books.

Today, we’re learning, listening, and imagining what’s possible. 💙

Several members of our team are in New Orleans today spending time with our friends at United Way of Southeast Louisiana to learn more about their Prosperity Centers and their approach to helping individuals and families build financial stability.

From financial coaching and credit building to benefits screening, tax assistance, and matched-savings opportunities, Prosperity Centers connect people with resources and opportunities designed to help them move toward greater financial stability and prosperity.

As we continue envisioning what financial stability work could look like here in Northeast Louisiana, conversations like these are invaluable. We’re learning from what’s working, exploring new possibilities, and thinking boldly about how we can create pathways that help more people move forward and thrive.

A special thank you to Michael Williamson, President & CEO of United Way of Southeast Louisiana, and his team for welcoming us, sharing their experience, and engaging with us in this important work.

Every connection counts. 💙

From August 14–21, our 211 team made 301 connections with individuals and families across Northeast Louisiana, including 281 calls, 19 text contacts, and one walk-in visit. Food pantry assistance and electric utility assistance were the most requested services during the week.

Community outreach is helping more people learn where to turn for support, with 18 callers sharing that they learned about 211 through a community event.

Our team also continues to strengthen the resources available through 211. This week, two new resources were added and six existing resources were updated in the 211 Resource Database, helping ensure our specialists have current information to connect residents with available support.

Each call, text, and visit is another opportunity to connect someone with helpful information and community resources.

Yesterday, members of the United Way of Northeast Louisiana Board of Directors came together for our first Board Retreat, taking time to learn, reflect & look ahead at how we can continue strengthening individuals & families across Northeast Louisiana.

Throughout the retreat, Board members heard updates on the work happening across our region, including the breadth of our Community Impact efforts, the needs we hear every day through 211, the relationship-based strategy we use as we advance our mission & the financial processes & practices being put in place to effectively steward our resources.

We were also grateful to welcome Sarah Berthelot with Louisiana Association of United Ways, who shared insights on Thriving United Ways & how we can continue building a strong, effective organization for the future.

Thank you to our Board members for their leadership, engagement & commitment to helping United Way of Northeast Louisiana mobilize our community to action so all can thrive.
