Demonstrating water safety today at the Back to School Bash . Come join us before noon today!

Some rescue tips if you can't join is today:
1) Never swim alone.
2) If you don't know how to swim, wear a life jacket.
3) If someone is drowning in a pool look for something floaty that you can toss to them or throw them a rope - avoid getting in the water yourself if at all possible!

Yeah, it has rained but we are not out of the deficit yet...

Every time we get some much-needed rainfall, people ask, So the drought's over, right? I always have to say no. Droughts don't form overnight, and they don't go away overnight. Droughts are about long-term impacts from lack of rainfall, so it takes long-term rainfall to end them. Yes, the rain helps and starts eating away at the drought, but if we don't get more rain to keep eating away, then we either just hold steady or get worse. We need 1" of rainfall a week just to be normal; then we need rainfall on top of that to get rid of . So yes, the rain helps, but we need a stalled front like one of these every week for the next 4-6 weeks, which isn't liekly. The good news is all the plants got some moisture, and the area's lakes and streams get some water.

In case you notice our hydrants getting a new "top", Union County Water has begun to upgrade some of our hydrants to new smart hydrants. These upgraded devices monitor the temperature and pressure of the water. The first one installed was yesterday in Griffith Road's district.

Lots of changes to how we do things over the years, but the commitment has never changed. We remain a resource to protect our community from all dangers. It's just what we continue to do.

Celebrate safely!

🎆 Celebrate the 4th. Stay Safe.
Nothing ruins Independence Day faster than a trip to the emergency room or a fire that could have been prevented.
If you're celebrating with fireworks this weekend, remember a few simple safety tips:
🇺🇸 Keep a bucket of water or a hose nearby.
🇺🇸 Never allow children to handle fireworks.
🇺🇸 Only light one firework at a time.
🇺🇸 Never relight a firework that doesn't go off.
🇺🇸 Keep a safe distance from people, homes, vehicles, and dry grass.
The best way to enjoy fireworks is to attend a professional display.
We hope you have a fun, safe, and happy Independence Day. If an emergency does happen, call 911 immediately.

Celebrate safe! Be careful with sparklers and children. Sparklers can burn hot enough to melt metal and retain that heat long after they "burn out." So dispose of them properly to avoid danger of burns or fire.
