Eleven cities have been awarded more than $33 million in Georgia Environmental Finance Authority (GEFA) financing for water and wastewater projects. Investments like these keep essential systems strong for the residents who depend on them every day. Congratulations to all 11 award recipients!

City offices will be closed on Monday, September 7th as we observe Labor Day. Please take note, there will be a modified schedule this coming week for solid waste and recycling collections due to this closure.

There will be construction activity on North Lumpkin Street over the next several days to prepare for the relocation of utility poles, but will not impact travel on the street. Next Tuesday, September 8th, the south end (Spring Street) of the street will be closed for the setting of a new ductile pole as part of this relocation. During this time, entry/exit to the street will be allowed on the north end (Highland Avenue). Once completed, the remaining poles will then be relocated without impact to normal traffic flow and/or direction.

This construction activity is associated with the ongoing Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) project that is tracking towards the final stages to completion over the coming months.

Beginning this afternoon at approximately 2pm, August 31st there will be tree limb removal taking place on North Midland Avenue that may interfere with parking on those sections.

The bigger part of construction, including full demo of the existing trees, sidewalk, curb and gutter, and asphalt will be taking place beginning tomorrow morning, Tuesday, September 1st that will block off all street parking and interrupt the parking area inside of the property as well. This demo should take a few days, to then move towards the reconstruction of curb and gutter, sidewalks, landscaping and replacement of asphalt into the next week.

Access to businesses during this time will be possible still and parking will be available as always just across the street on North Midland Avenue. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

As an update, our 2026 paving season started on Monday, August 10th, and currently Cloverdale Drive, Arcadia Court, Red Oak Court, Oakwood Lane, White Oak Drive, Union Street, Atha Street, and North Hammond Drive are complete.

Patching is currently taking place on Henson Drive and Vine Street, with overlay to follow for completion. Gatewood Drive, Gatewood Way, Brookwood Lane, Applewood Drive, and Ammons Bridge Road will all see patching to follow as well.

Permanent striping will be completed in the coming weeks on all of those streets. Further updates will be provided throughout the process as schedules take shape due to timing and/or weather.

Through our participation with the Local Administered Project (LAP) Certification program, we're able to take advantage of the Local Maintenance & Improvement Grant (LMIG) and Local Road Administration (LRA) programs for funding with pavement projects on an annual basis. The allocation amount received is based on the total centerline road miles for each local road system and the total population of each county or city as compared with the total statewide centerline road miles and total statewide population. This year, the approximate funding totals are $560,762 as a combination of both programs.
