Today, members of the Monroe Fire Department were honored to participate in the Memorial Day Service at Lakeland Memorial Park.

Chief Fowler, Battalion 1, Ladder 1, and Rescue 5 proudly represented MFD during the ceremony, including the display of the American flag with our apparatus as we joined the community in remembering and honoring the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Memorial Day is more than a long weekend — it is a time to pause, reflect, and remember the sacrifices made by those who never made it home. Their courage and dedication to protecting our freedoms will never be forgotten.

We would like to thank Lakeland Memorial Park for hosting this meaningful event and for inviting the Monroe Fire Department to be a part of today’s remembrance ceremony.

Recruit Class 27 – Week 14

Last week, the 9 recruits of the Monroe Fire Department completed Fire Control training, putting many of the skills learned throughout the academy into live fire scenarios.

Recruits operated through vehicle fire evolutions and had the opportunity to work a residential structure burn, applying fire attack, hose line management, ventilation, communication, and teamwork in real-world conditions.

Live fire training provides recruits with valuable experience in heat, smoke, fire behavior, and decision-making under pressure while operating in full PPE and SCBA.

This week marked another major milestone as Class 27 continues progressing toward the next phase of their training.

20 Years of Service – Monroe Fire Department Recruit Class 6

Today marks 20 years since Recruit Class 6 was hired on May 8, 2006. Two decades later, the impact of this class can still be seen across the department every single day.

From probationary firefighters learning the basics, to experienced leaders helping shape the next generation, Class 6 has dedicated countless hours to serving the community, mentoring firefighters, and answering the call whenever needed.

This “Then & Now” photo is a reminder of how far they’ve come — and the experience, tradition, and commitment they continue to bring to the job after 20 years.

Thank you for your service, sacrifice, and dedication to Monroe Fire Department and the citizens we serve. Congratulations on this milestone anniversary.

Recruit Class 27 – Week 12

Last week, the 9 recruits of the Monroe Fire Department focused on firefighter safety and survival.

Training placed recruits in high-stress scenarios designed to build problem-solving skills and confidence under pressure. Drills included the Denver Drill, simulating the removal of a downed firefighter through a confined opening, hose bailouts for emergency egress, and working through an entanglement box to practice disentanglement techniques while on air.

These evolutions reinforce the reality that firefighters must be prepared to save not only others, but also themselves and their crew.

Class 27 continues to develop the mindset and skills necessary to operate safely and effectively on the fireground.

Recruit Class 27 – Week 11

Last week, the 9 recruits of the Monroe Fire Department focused on hose streams and fireground appliances.

Training covered hose line deployment, nozzle operation, and the different stream patterns used during fire attack. Recruits also worked with appliances such as gated wyes, manifolds, and other tools used to control and distribute water on the fireground.

Hands-on evolutions emphasized coordination, communication, and maintaining control of the line while flowing water.

Understanding how to effectively move and apply water is a critical step in fire suppression, and Class 27 continues to build those skills each week as they progress through the academy.
