The Monroe City Police Department would like to extend a sincere thank you to Miss Toni of Addison Storage, Katie, Stephanie, and CJ at Lowe’s of Hannibal, and Pryor Construction for their generous contributions toward the renovation of our animal shelter.

Support from local businesses and community members makes a meaningful difference, especially with projects that directly benefit the animals in our care and the community we serve. These contributions help us continue improving the shelter, providing a safer and better environment for the animals, and supporting the ongoing efforts of our department.

We are truly grateful for your kindness, generosity, and support of the Monroe City Police Department.

Thank you for standing behind your local law enforcement and helping us make this important project possible.

Sincerely,

Chief Zach James
Captain Patrick McGee

05/04/2026- The Monroe City Police Department and Monroe County Dispatch Center ADMINISTRATIVE PHONE LINES are down due to a regional outage. At this time there is no estimate of when service will be restored. All 911 SYSTEMS ARE STILL OPERATIONAL. To contact the Police Department for non-emergency issues you will need to contact us in person at the police department until the service outage is repaired. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes.

With spring weather here, I would like to remind everyone that we will be enforcing nuisance violations. We ask that the community help us in this goal by making sure you stay within compliance and help neighbors who need it. We are a great community that pulls together and I hope we can continue to see that this year as well.

Things to know.
1. Grass and weeds need to be maintained at a length below 10" in height.
2. Yards and ditches need to be kept clear of general trash, rubbish, discarded items and scrap material.
3. Damaged and disabled vehicles are required to have a valid license plate/ registration.
4. If you have a vehicle which cannot be repaired to meet registration requirements, that you don't want, you cannot sell or you want to scrap you can call area towing companies to assist in removing them.

This comes by request of a great majority of the community and I want to say we are addressing these issues as quickly as we can. If you want to report a nuisance complaint please do so by calling the police department, not by posting in the comment area. Thank you for your help.

Respectfully,
Chief Zach James

Good afternoon,

I’d like to emphasize the importance of attending City Council meetings, whether in person or virtually. A great deal of information is discussed during these meetings that is vital to understanding not only how our department operates, but how all City departments function—and how the City as a whole is running.

It’s easy for word of mouth to spread accurate information just as quickly as misinformation. I strongly encourage the public to participate in City proceedings and ensure you’re receiving reliable, credible information to form your own opinions. Community knowledge and citizen input are essential.

Misinformation can spread quickly. For example, there has been recent speculation that the Police Department is currently significantly over budget. At this time, we are only a couple of weeks away from being halfway through the fiscal year. Currently, the Police Department has utilized 39% of our annual budget allocation—which is consistent with where we should be at this point in the budget year.

I strongly encourage community members to participate in council sessions and local government. As always, transparency is key in communication so if you have questions, please ask—and make sure the information you’re receiving is credible. We ask that questions be directed to the office and not directly on this post as we will not have the means to answer all questions in the comments section. You can contact the Police Department at (573) 735-4431during business hours.

Respectfully,
Chief Z. James
