Twenty-five years ago, many of us remember exactly where we were when the world seemed to stop.
Some were in classrooms. Some were at work. Some were at home with family. We watched in disbelief as the events of September 11, 2001 unfolded and thousands of people tried desperately to escape the World Trade Center.
At the same time, firefighters, police officers, EMS personnel, and other first responders were heading directly toward the danger.
For those of us who serve in the volunteer or career fire service, September 11 holds a special place in our hearts. Those firefighters could not have known what awaited them that morning. They simply knew people needed help, and they answered the call.
Twenty-five years later, we continue to remember the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the courageous first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Today, and every day, we honor their courage, service, and sacrifice.
