⚠️ SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH IN EFFECT ⚠️

The Monongah Fire Department would like to remind all residents to remain weather aware as severe thunderstorms are expected throughout the region today. These storms may produce damaging winds, heavy rainfall, dangerous lightning, and localized flooding.

Please take a few moments now to prepare and stay safe:

⛈️ Stay Indoors During Lightning
Avoid outdoor activities and stay away from windows and electrical appliances during storms.

🌳 Secure Outdoor Items
Bring in or tie down patio furniture, grills, trampolines, and other loose objects that could become dangerous in high winds.

🚗 Never Drive Through Flooded Roadways
Turn Around, Don’t Drown. Even a small amount of moving water can sweep a vehicle away.

Monitor local weather alerts and have multiple ways to receive emergency notifications. If you experience an emergency, call 911 immediately.

Stay safe,
Monongah Fire Department

As everyone enjoys the holiday weekend with family and friends, we encourage you to stay safe by following these important fire safety tips:

🔥 Never leave grills, fire pits, or campfires unattended.
🔥 Keep children and pets at least 3 feet away from open flames and hot surfaces.

🚨🔥 Monongah Fire Department – Elevated Wildfire Risk Alert 🔥🚨

The risk for wildfires across our region is currently elevated due to dry conditions, low humidity, and gusty winds. Fires can start easily and spread rapidly—please use extreme caution outdoors.

Help reduce the risk of wildfires by following these key safety tips:

✅ Never leave any fire unattended – Always fully extinguish campfires and burn piles.
✅ Clear dry brush and debris – Keep your yard and surrounding areas free of flammable materials.
✅ Avoid activities that create sparks – This includes using equipment like grinders, chainsaws, or mowing in dry conditions.

Your actions make a difference in protecting lives, property, and our community.

🚒 Stay alert. Stay safe.

The members of the Monongah Fire Department would like to wish everyone in our community a safe and Happy Easter! We hope your day is filled with family, friends, and plenty of Easter cheer.

As you celebrate, please keep these fire safety tips in mind:

🔥 Stay in the kitchen when cooking – Unattended cooking is the leading cause of home fires.

🔥 Check your smoke alarms – Make sure they are working properly to keep your family protected.

Have a wonderful and safe holiday! 🚒💛

April is Autism Awareness Month 💙🧩

The Monongah Fire Department is proud to support Autism Awareness Month and stand with individuals, families, and communities affected by autism. Together, we can promote understanding, acceptance, and inclusion for all.

🔹 Fact #1: Autism affects 1 in 36 children in the United States, making awareness and education more important than ever.
🔹 Fact #2: Autism is a spectrum—meaning individuals experience a wide range of strengths, challenges, and abilities.
🔹 Fact #3: Early intervention and support services can greatly improve communication, learning, and social skills.

As first responders, we are committed to serving everyone in our community with compassion, respect, and understanding.

Let’s continue to learn, support, and advocate—because awareness leads to acceptance. 💙

🚨 Monongah Fire Department – Elevated Fire Danger Today 🚨

We are experiencing increased fire risk across our area today due to low humidity (around 30%) and gusty southwest winds up to 20–25 mph. These conditions make it easy for fires to start and spread rapidly.

🔥 What this means for you:
• Avoid all outdoor burning
• Use caution with equipment that may create sparks
• Keep vehicles off dry grass
• Be aware that dry leaves, grass, and brush can ignite quickly

⚠️ Important Reminder:
Per West Virginia law, outdoor burning is prohibited from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM between March 1 and May 31.

Let’s all do our part to prevent wildfires and keep our community safe. If you see smoke or fire, report it immediately.

Stay safe,
Monongah Fire Department
