We get a lot of questions at City Hall from residents who are starting services for the first time.
In Monmouth, we combine all your services like water, sewer, infrastructure, recycling, garbage, and yard waste into one simple monthly bill to make things easier and more convenient for you.

The boil order for the Southeast part of town has now been lifted.

Due to a large water main break and loss of pressure earlier today, the Public Works Department has issued a boil order for the Southeast part of town. Residents South of Broadway Avenue and East of Main Street are required to boil their water before consumption. As soon as lab samples are returned, the boil order will be lifted.

Public Works crews are currently repairing a large water main break on East 4th Avenue. Due to the very high flow rate of the main, residents will likely notice reduced water pressure at their residence. This is only temporary as they repair the main. Repairs are expected to be completed today.

The City of Monmouth is excited to include a $1.04 million improvement project for our Municipal Airport in the upcoming budget. This Phase 1 work will repave the East Apron and Runway 3/21 which is the runway that's used heavily by our local Air Tractor operations.

Out of the total cost, $998,416 will come from federal and state grant funds. The city's 5% local match is $28,416, which will be taken from the Monmouth Airport Money Market Reserve. These are restricted funds that can only be used for airport operations.
This investment will keep the runway and apron in great shape for years to come, supporting safe and reliable operations right here in Monmouth.

We've received federal funding for decades to help maintain and operate the airport. Because we accepted those funds in the past, we're required to keep the airport open to the public. That's why IDOT Aviation has strict guidelines for us to continue making local investments.
Each crop season the airport generates rent and operations revenue from the ag flyers who base their planes and materials here. It's a real asset that supports our local agriculture and business community.

Did you know the Monmouth Municipal Airport is the oldest continuously operating airport in Illinois? It was founded back in 1921 and features one asphalt runway that's 2,899 feet long by 60 feet wide. It remains fully open for public use. It is also home to the Monmouth Flying Club which is a strong community of local pilots.
