Our thoughts and prayers are with the Durand Fire Department during this difficult time.

With profound and heartfelt sadness, we have to announce the passing of Firefighter Chris J. Bates. Chris joined the Durand Fire Department in 2007, served as a Lieutenant and Training Officer on the department and was a current Senior Member. Chris was an amazing firefighter and US Marine Veteran. More importantly he was a brilliant husband, father and grandfather to his family. Rest easy brother, we’ll take the watch from here. Godspeed Chris Bates.

During the month of May, the Mondovi Fire Department responded to 9 calls for service, bringing our 2026 total to 44 calls.

May responses included:
🚒 3 Motor Vehicle Crashes
🔥 2 Wildland Fires
🚑 2 EMS/Medical Assists
🤝 1 Mutual Aid Call
📱 1 Other Incident (Phone-Detected Crash)

We are grateful for the continued support of our community and the dedication of our members who stand ready to answer the call, day or night. As we move into the warmer months, please remember to use caution with outdoor burning and be mindful of the elevated fire danger conditions.

As we head into Memorial Day weekend, the members of the Mondovi Fire Department wish everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend. 🇺🇸

While spending time with family and friends, attending events, or traveling, we also encourage everyone to take a moment to remember the true meaning of Memorial Day — honoring and remembering the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country.

Please celebrate safely, look out for one another, and never forget those who gave everything for our freedom. ❤️🤍💙

Temps through the rest of the week are going to continue to increase our fire danger for wildfires, but with awareness and caution, we can work together to prevent them. Our next significant rain forecast isn’t until Sunday, so let’s stay vigilant and take proactive steps to stay safe until conditions improve. Stay safe everyone!!

While Buffalo and Pepin County are currently at a Moderate risk for wildfire, residents in our Eau Claire County coverage are under Very High conditions. With the temperatures rising to the 70’s today, we encourage everyone to be safe, take a moment to think, and wait to burn until conditions improve, and let's all do our part to stay safe and look out for one another! Please stay safe everyone!

Good evening! Our April run summary is in, and we are happy to report that the wet weather has led to a decrease in wildfire calls. Let's continue to work together to promote safe burning practices and ensure everyone's safety.
