Okay, this one isn't about buildings. Bear with us. πŸ„

We are on the hunt for a local farmer selling beef by the quarter or half. And not just any beef. We're talking raised right, handled well, and so good that a Tuesday night dinner feels like something worth sitting down for.

Here's our wishlist in order of dreams:
πŸ₯© Grass fed AND grass finished β€” the dream
πŸ₯© Grass fed β€” we're listening
πŸ₯© Good honest local beef from someone who actually cares about their animals β€” already sold

We believe in spending money where it counts and being smart where it doesn't. Buying local beef in bulk is one of those places where you can do both β€” better quality, better price, and you know exactly where it came from. Running a tight ship at home is how we run a tight ship at work, and our customers appreciate that. It's basically a business philosophy at this point. 😌

There is nothing quite like knowing exactly where your food came from, supporting a local farm, and opening a chest freezer that is absolutely stacked for the season. That's the goal. That's the dream.

If you know someone, ARE someone, or have a farmer who needs to move some beef this season β€” now is your moment.

Drop a name, a number, or a farm in the comments. We have a feeling we're not the only ones around here looking. πŸ‘‡

We talk a lot about supporting local businesses around here. But today we want to take a second to support a future local business owner. πŸ™Œ

Bennett stopped by our house late last week and handed us this flyer. He's a student at Mondovi High School and he is out here doing it the right way β€” hitting the pavement, introducing himself in person, and putting in the work to build something of his own. No GoFundMe. No waiting for someone to hand him something. Just a kid with a mower, a plan, and more initiative than most adults we know.

We respect the hustle deeply. Possibly because we recognize it.

Now. Full transparency. Our lawn was not exactly in its finest condition when Bennett came by. Between running a business and keeping up with a house full of kids, the mower belt had quietly staged a protest and we'd just dropped it at the shop down the road the day before. So Bennett showed up at our door, professional and prepared, while our lawn was out there just absolutely living its best life. Untamed. Free. Thriving.

We got the mower back Tuesday and handled it immediately. Before our neighbors did something about it. We're talking a narrow margin here. 😬

The kid has got it figured out. We're just glad he came by.

If your lawn is ready for some attention this summer β€” or even if it's not quite at our level of chaos β€” give Bennett a call. Support a local kid who is clearly going places.

πŸ“ž 715-495-4794 β€” call or text
βœ‚οΈ Lawn mowing, grass trimming, and sidewalks and walkways blown off β€” all included. Not extra. Not an upsell. Just included. Honestly that's five star service and he hasn't even started yet. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

We were all just starting out once. Help a kid build something. πŸ’ͺ

Last week we put up an RV shelter in Ettrick, Wi as a multi-use building! It will also be used for a wedding this fall, and we couldn’t be happier with the finished product! Shout out to A.D.S Construction & Concrete LLC for the help putting it up!

🀐 An honest disclaimer about our owner.

Brett Owens is great at a lot of things. Framing buildings. πŸ—οΈ Setting trusses in questionable weather. 🌬️ Reading a set of plans. Showing up when he said he would. βœ… Making a 6-hour day look like a 12-hour day. πŸ’ͺ

He is also, occasionally, the kind of guy who delivers the kind of one-liners that don't always make it to print. πŸ˜… The crew loves him for it. The customers love him for it. The jokes land 9 times out of 10. 🎯

It's that 10th time that keeps Liz employed. 🫣

So if you've ever wondered why the posts on this page sound a little more... polished than Brett does in person β€” that's because Liz runs the Facebook. β˜• And Liz has a filter. πŸ›‘οΈ And a delete button. πŸ—‘οΈ And occasionally, the patience of a saint. πŸ˜‡

(Liz is also the one writing this post. Brett has not seen it yet. He will agree it is accurate. He has no choice.) ✍️

This arrangement works. Mostly. πŸ˜„

If you want the full experience, you'll have to hire us. πŸ‘·

We've had quite a journey with this one. πŸ—οΈ

If you've been following along, you know this build had its moments β€” phantom deliveries, surprise utility lines, a tornado watch, and a very eventful first week. Through all of it, this customer never once made our lives harder than they needed to be.

So seeing this review land today meant a lot more than a typical five stars.

Thank you, Travis. Genuinely. You were the easiest part of a very eventful build and we don't take that for granted. We hope that building serves you well for decades to come. πŸ™

If you've worked with us and have a minute to leave us a Google review, we would truly appreciate it. It helps small local businesses like ours more than you know. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Strum build update. πŸ—οΈ

A few weeks ago we shared the story of our first build of the season β€” the phantom steel delivery, the internet lines that found the auger before the auger found them, and the tornado watch that showed up right as we were setting trusses. If you missed it, it's worth a scroll back. It was a week. Possibly two weeks worth of chaos crammed into five days.

We're happy to report that things got significantly less eventful after that.

The building survived the storm without a scratch β€” turns out spending a Friday afternoon bracing a structure before a tornado watch is time well spent. Who knew. After that it was smooth sailing, outside of a few missing pieces from the building package. We won't say who the supplier is. We don't have to. πŸ™„

Today, the garage doors started going on.

There is something about the moment the doors go in that makes a building feel real. Four walls and a roof become something a person can actually use. It's one of our favorite parts of any build. Mostly because it means we're almost done and nobody has hit any more utility lines.

For the door installation we called in the crew from LabraDoor Overhead Services out of Altoona β€” a local, family owned overhead door company that knows what they're doing and takes pride in their work. Watching two small local businesses work together on a job like this is exactly what western Wisconsin is all about. If you need garage doors installed, repaired, or serviced, these are your people. Seriously, go give them a follow. πŸ™Œ

We're not done yet β€” but we're close. Stay tuned for the finished product.

Here's where it stands today. πŸ‘‡

For years, Mondovi Metal & Post Frame LLC didn't have a slogan. 🀷

Honestly, we didn't really think we needed one. Brett just showed up, did the work, and let the buildings speak for themselves. That's always been the way.

But when we started building out our website, the question came up β€”

Who are we, really? What do we want people to know about us before they ever pick up the phone?
..So we got to work. πŸ’

We went back and forth. A lot. Some ideas were too generic. Some sounded like every other contractor out there. None of them felt like us.

Brett would shoot one down. I'd come back with another. We'd end up right back at square one. πŸ˜…

Then this one came up.

✨ "Framing your vision, building our community." ✨

And we both just... stopped.

That was it. No debate. No back and forth. It just felt right.

Because that's genuinely how we want to do business β€” not just today, but for many years to come. πŸ™Œ

Every project starts with someone's vision.

🌾 A farmer who needs a machine shed.

🏑 A family who's dreamed of a post frame home.

πŸ—οΈ A business owner who finally has the land to build what they've always wanted.

Our job is to take that vision and turn it into something real.
Something that lasts.

And the community part? That's not filler. ❀️
Brett grew up in western Wisconsin. This is home.

There's a real pride that comes with driving down a county road and being able to say β€”
"Yeah. I built that. That's ours." 🀘

Knowing that building is going to be standing there for 30, 40, 50 years β€” that means something to us. That means everything.

That's what gets us up in the morning. β˜€οΈ

That's what "Framing your vision, building our community" means to us.

If you've got a project in mind, we'd love to be a part of it. πŸ‘‡

😬 "5 Mistakes People Make When Planning Their Post Frame Build (Before They Even Call a Contractor)"

We see it all the time. Someone spends months dreaming about their perfect shop, barn, or garage β€” and then makes one of these planning mistakes before a single post ever hits the ground. Don't be that person. Here's what to avoid:

1. Underestimating size. Every. Single. Time.
You think you need a 30x40. You actually need a 40x60. We've never once had a customer call us back and say "wow, I wish I'd built it smaller." Build bigger than you think you need. Future you will send a thank you card.

2. Not checking with your county before you get too attached to a plan.
Permits, setbacks, zoning β€” they exist, they matter, and finding out AFTER you've already fallen in love with a layout is a painful conversation. Ask us how we know. 😬

3. Forgetting to plan for what goes INSIDE.
So you want a shop. Cool. Where's the floor drain? The electrical panel? The overhead door for your biggest piece of equipment? Plan the inside before you finalize the outside or you'll be regretting it on day one.

4. Waiting for "the right time."
There is no right time. There is only the time you decide to stop waiting. Material costs don't go down. Schedules don't get shorter. The right time was last year. Next best option is now.

5. Picking a contractor based on price alone.

We'll just leave this one here and let you sit with it. 😏

Questions about planning your build the RIGHT way? That's literally what we're here for. Drop a comment or shoot us a message. We actually respond. πŸ‘‡
