Hello,

When researching for a family, I came across some food resources in Midland.

There IS a Salvation Army chapter there, but they DO NOT offer food help. If you have a family needing immediate food assistance from that town, there is a food pantry open this evening from 5:30-7pm called Midland Community Market and they don't require income verification or eligibility.

It says "all are welcome".

There is also a place in Midland called The Center, which families need to register for, but once they do, there are several free programs and resources for families. https://www.midland.center/adult-family-ministry

Then of course, there is the Family Matters Food Pantry by the mall, where we can pick up food for our families as long as they have already registered and we have 1. our ID 2. Copy of their photo ID 3. Proof of their residency

If you're receiving SNAP (food stamps), the biggest change on October 1, 2026 is that benefit amounts are increasing slightly due to the annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA).

Examples for the 48 states and Washington, D.C.:

1 person: $298 → $306 (+$8)
2 people: $546 → $562 (+$16)
3 people: $785 → $808 (+$23)
4 people: $994 → $1,023 (+$29)

In addition:

SNAP income eligibility limits are increasing, which may allow some households that previously earned too much to qualify.
The changes are automatic for current SNAP recipients. You do not need to submit a special application to receive the updated benefit amount.

For Pennsylvania SNAP recipients, there are no major Pennsylvania-only benefit cuts or special rule changes taking effect on October 1, 2026 that affect most households directly. The main change is the federal SNAP cost-of-living adjustment, which applies in Pennsylvania just as it does across the 48 contiguous states. Benefits, income limits, and certain deductions will increase automatically.

What Pennsylvania SNAP Recipients Should Expect

✅ Higher maximum SNAP benefits

1 person: $306/month maximum
2 people: $562/month maximum
3 people: $808/month maximum
4 people: $1,023/month maximum

These new amounts begin with October 2026 benefits.

✅ Higher income limits

Some Pennsylvania households that were previously slightly over the income limit may now qualify for SNAP because the federal eligibility limits are increasing.

✅ Automatic adjustment

Current SNAP recipients do not need to reapply to receive the increase. Pennsylvania's Department of Human Services will automatically apply the new federal benefit levels.
Pennsylvania Payment Schedule

Pennsylvania does not issue all SNAP benefits on October 1. Benefits are deposited throughout the month according to the final digit of the recipient's case record number. Your regular payment date should remain the same even though the new benefit amounts begin October 1.

Looking Ahead

There has been national discussion about longer-term SNAP funding and administrative changes affecting states beginning in fiscal year 2027. However, these changes primarily affect state budgets and program administration rather than causing an immediate reduction in Pennsylvania recipients' October 2026 benefits.
