🚨 GENERATOR SAFETY — PLEASE READ, MOKENA! 🚨

The Mokena Fire Protection District has responded to more than a dozen carbon monoxide (CO) emergencies in the last 48 hours.

Carbon monoxide is colorless, odorless, and potentially deadly. Portable generators can produce dangerous levels of CO, even when you don’t notice anything unusual.

⚠️ PLEASE KEEP GENERATORS AWAY FROM YOUR HOME!

✅ Operate generators OUTSIDE and well away from your home, garage, doors, windows, and vents.
❌ NEVER operate a generator inside your home, garage, basement, or any enclosed or partially enclosed space.
🔋 Make sure your carbon monoxide alarms are working and have fresh batteries.

A generator belongs OUTSIDE — not in the garage, not on the porch, and not next to your home.

Please take this seriously. A few extra feet of distance can make the difference between a power outage and a tragedy.

🚨 **SEVERE WEATHER REMINDER — STAY SAFE, MOKENA!** 🌩️

Between yesterday and noon today, **Mokena Fire Protection District responded to 82 incidents.**

Our firefighters and paramedics continue working around the clock to keep our community safe. As severe weather moves through the area, we ask everyone to take a few moments to prepare:

🌩️ **Stay informed** — Monitor weather alerts and updates.
🏠 **Know your safe place** — Be ready to move indoors quickly.
🔦 **Be prepared** — Keep an emergency kit and supplies available.
⚡ **Seek shelter** — Stay indoors and away from windows during dangerous weather.
❤️ **Check on others** — Look out for family, friends, neighbors, and those who may need assistance.

Severe weather can change quickly. **Please take it seriously, stay alert, and make safety a priority.**

Stay safe, Mokena! We have responded to several incidents over the past 24 hours involving generators and carbon monoxide (CO). If using a portable generator, please remember these basic safety guidelines:

* Keep the generator at least 20 feet (preferably longer) from any door, window, or other opening.

* Point the exhaust downwind.

* Never fuel a generator while running.
