Senator Doug Mastriano & Representative Stephanie Borowicz hosted "The Day of the Bible" event in Philadelphia at Congress Hall, next to the Independence Hall where the Declaration of Independence was signed. Ernie Springer summed it up: "This building is where the colonial Congress and many of our nation's founders would meet. The event, as a result of the state Senate Resolution 131, and hosted by Senator Douglas Mastriano and Representative Stephanie Borowicz was to recognize the 243rd anniversary of the first American printing of the English Bible, specifically the King James Version done in 1782 by Robert Aitkins, a Philadelphia printer who produced 10,000 copies, primarily for use by students in the schools of the early colonies. Bibles had become scarce due to a trade embargo as a result of the War for Independence. This was significant for a number of reasons. The First American Bible is:
~The Only Bible Approved by Congress
~The Only Bible Recommended to Americans
~The First King James Bible Made in America
~The First English Bible Made for Schools
~Printed Only Six Years After the Declaration of Independence
~And Five Years Before the Constitution of the United States
~At the Very Foundation of Our Nation."
