Trending Scam…. Criminals are calling residents claiming to be from the Sheriff’s Dept. using a spoofed phone number which makes it appear that the call is in fact coming from the Sheriff’s Dept. and claiming that there is a warrant for your arrest, you missed jury duty, or you have an unpaid fine. This is a scam! No Law Enforcement agency at any level of government will ever accept any type of payment methods over the phone, especially Bitcoin! Hang up immediately and call the police.

On August 26th, 2025, Douglas Kaufman without regard to his own safety entered into a neighbors home after seeing that the garage adjacent to the home was actively on fire. He entered the home potentially putting himself in harm’s way to check that all occupants were out. He found that there were no human occupants, but did rescue the resident’s dog. He exited and cared for the dog until the owner arrived home. For his selflessness in this particular act of heroism, Douglas Kaufman is hereby recognized by the Cumru Township Police Department.
