Congratulations to Aga Cook on being featured in Arizona’s Literacy Leaders series by The Reading League Arizona. From beginning her journey in Poland to becoming Director of Educational Services at MVESD and a Milken Educator Award recipient, Aga continues to lead with a relentless focus on students, systems, and empowering educators. Her work alongside principals, teachers, and district teams has helped drive meaningful student growth and statewide recognition for MVESD. We are proud to see her passion for evidence-aligned literacy instruction and collaborative leadership celebrated across Arizona.
Student Focused! Future Driven.
Meet Aga Cook, Director of Educational Services at Mohave Valley Elementary School District #16 and the next featured leader in our AZ Literacy Leaders series.
Aga's path to literacy leadership has been anything but ordinary. Originally from Poland, she earned a master's degree in law from the University of Lodz before coming to Arizona in 2005. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Northern Arizona University and a Master of Education in Educational Administration from Grand Canyon University. She began her career in MVESD as a fifth-grade teacher at Camp Mohave Elementary, then served as K-8 Curriculum Coordinator and Data Coach before her current role. In 2024, Aga was honored with the prestigious Milken Educator Award for her impact on students, teachers, and the MVESD community.
As Director of Educational Services, Aga Cook works alongside Superintendent Cole Young to support the district's vision for high-quality teaching and learning. Aga's role focuses on helping bring this vision to life through collaboration with principals, teachers, mentors, and district teams. This collective work has contributed to Camp Mohave Elementary earning an "A" rating and recognition from NCUST, while MVESD continues to be recognized nationally for student growth.
When asked what she would share with other Arizona literacy leaders, Aga said it best.
"My advice to other leaders is to focus on building systems, not just buying programs, because it is the people who change student outcomes. Sustainable literacy growth happens when you move away from isolated initiatives and instead invest in collaborative structures that empower our educators."
Aga, thank you for showing Arizona what evidence aligned, system level literacy work looks like in practice. We are proud to feature you.
