Whether they are supporting a hospital, a school district, a business, a nonprofit, or an entire community, emergency managers work to ensure people and services can continue when disasters strike.

When people think about disasters, they often think about the response, but that’s not where it starts. Emergency management starts long before an emergency happens and continues long after it ends. Emergency managers identify risks, build partnerships, develop plans, coordinate training, and help communities and organizations recover and rebuild. National Emergency Management Awareness Month is an opportunity to recognize the work that often happens behind the scenes and the professionals who make it possible.

As we bring this month to a close, we wanted to share that August is National Emergency Management Awareness Month, a time to recognize the professionals who work year-round to help people, businesses, and institutions prepare for and recover from disasters. Emergency management is more than disaster response. It is planning, coordination, mitigation, and recovery.

***Smoke Advisory*** Large Fire in Merced County causing drift smoke on the east side of Turlock and the County. Please avoid the area to allow responders to mitigate the fire. Please follow Merced County Sheriff's Office for more information.

**ROAD CLOSURE - BALLICO**

N Newport Road from Sunny Acres Ave to East Ave is closed.

A tire fire is currently burning at a recycling center in the 13000 block of Newport Road in Ballico. The fire is expected to continue burning for some time. Residents are advised to stay indoors when possible, keep windows and doors closed, and avoid the area while emergency crews manage the incident.
