The Modesto City Council voted not to extend the Letter of Intent with the United Soccer League and the construction of a downtown soccer stadium, and ancillary development at the June 9, 2026, City Council meeting.

The decision came after a presentation of the independent fiscal analysis of the possibility of building a soccer stadium, which revealed the financial feasibility of the project is a risk.

In response to public concerns regarding the name of Cesar E. Chavez Park, the City of Modesto’s Culture Commission initiated the process to rename the park at a Special Meeting on March 23, 2026. A 30-day public input period began the following day, allowing community members to submit name suggestions to the Commission.

After reviewing the full list of suggestions, the Culture Commission presented three name recommendations to the City Council: 4th Street Park, Si Se Puede Park, and Farm Workers Park.

In alignment with community feedback, the City Council voted to approve the renaming of Cesar E. Chavez Park to 4th Street Park at a City Council meeting on June 9, 2026.

Our Single-Family Bulky Item Collection Program allows for a “haul-it-yourself” option!

Instead of arranging a bulky item pickup at your home, this option is great for customers who would like to haul their own bulky items to transfer stations without waiting for an appointment! Modesto residents who have garbage service are eligible to use two vouchers per calendar year, allowing them to bring a truck or trailer no larger than 4ft x 4ft x 8ft to their hauler’s transfer station.

It’s that easy - no wait, no hassle. For more information, including a list of accepted items, please visit us online at https://www.modestogov.com/373/Bulky-Item-Collection
