Friends of the Davie County Public Library The Friends of the Davie County Public Library This is a public page that is open to all those who use the Davie County Library system.

It is sponsored by the Friends of the Davie County Public Library. We support both the Cooleemee and Mocksville branches. The goal of the FOL page is to help better connect Library Patrons who use Facebook, with their Library's valuable resources, activities and events. The "Friends of the Davie County Public Library" is a group that was re-organized in 2005 to provide support to the Libr

ary. The Friends of Davie County Public Library has non-profit status, so all donations to the group are tax-deductible. You don't have to be an FOL member to benefit from this page, but please look at all the ways we support our community and our library and consider joining us with a membership for yourself and/or a friend! Corporate memberships are welcome as well.

I am writing this post to the people who expressed interest in being on the FOL board or as active volunteers. We are having a meeting on Monday, Dec. 9th at 7:00 PM at the Mocksville Public Library in the History Room. We will discuss what the FOL does and the duties of the various positions. We are looking forward to meeting you all. See you on Monday!

This is a post to make one last try to get people to agree to take a board position or commit to volunteer at our events. These positions do not take much time at all. We hold meetings once a month but that can be changed if there is no business in the upcoming month. We skip monthly meetings when the board feels that there is not enough business. The meetings run about an hour. We have been meeting in the Library conference room on the third Tuesday of the month at 7 PM but that can be changed to work with the board members’ schedules. Here is a description of the duties of each job.
President – Preside and conduct meetings. Appoint all committees (we have not had any committees since I have been a member) (We have a person who is interested in this position)
Vice-President - Shall perform the duties of the President in the absence of the President and shall perform duties designated by the President
Secretary – Shall take minutes of fall membership and Board meetings and present them for adoption at the next meeting. The secretary shall keep a copy of the minutes as a permanent record. We have not had a secretary for the past 2 years. (I have a person who has said she is interested in taking the secretary position)
Treasurer – Shall receive and disburse all approved funds of this organization, keep accurate and complete records of the funds and transactions, shall make a financial report at each regular meeting of the Board, shall maintain the record of all members who have paid current dues and hence, are eligible to vote and hold office.
We also have members-at-large who attend the Board meetings but cannot vote.
We need enough members to fill the Board positions and be active in volunteering for events. Obviously our Bi-Annual Book Sale is our largest event and needs the most people. We need people to help set up, work the Book Sale and most importantly help to take down the Book Sale. We have been operating with a total of 5-6 people and that just doesn’t work.
We need to decide soon as to the future of the Friends of the Library. We don’t want this FOL to have to dissolve. Unfortunately, we must dissolve if we don’t get members to agree to step in Board positions and volunteer positions.
Please let us know if you are interested in a board position and which one. We have our annual FOL open business meeting in January at which time we reelect officer or vote new officers. We could have a former board member sit at the monthly meetings as a member at large if the new board wanted some information about how events or library purchases are handled.
Please let us know if you are interested

After 30 years of service Friends of the Library finds itself with the difficult decision of dissolving the group. Over the past 2 years 5-6 members have been doing everything from the group including the book sales. Even though our membership has grown we had difficulty find people to volunteer for our events. Our outside volunteers for the book sale have dwindled to a point that we are basically doing it ourselves. We are looking for FOL members or people that would be interested in joining and stepping in as officers (President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer) or committing to volunteer to help on a regular basis. It is not a time consuming responsibility and we will help the new officers and members in learning the responsibilities. We must have members volunteer to serve or the Friends of the Library will need to dissolve. If you are interested please send an email to [email protected]. We hope to hear from you!

Too hot to go out this weekend? Want to make your house feel lighter? Declutter your bookshelves, box up your old reads and either bring them to the library on Wednesday or contact the Friends at [email protected] and we will come pick them up or meet you and take them off your hands. We need books for our Fall Book Sale and if you donate books to us, you will have room...to buy new books!

What to do on a rainy Wednesday? Visit the library with an armload of books to donate to the Friends of the Library booksale this October. We need donations in order to make the sale a success. You can bring them to the circulation desk on Wednesdays or if you need another day, please contact the Friends at [email protected] . The weatherman says it will be stormy the rest of the week so if you don't have a box ready to donate, use the indoor time to sort through your shelves and bring them next Wednesday. Thank you!

Today is Wednesday. Do you know what that means? Donations for the Friends Book Sale can be dropped off all day at the circulation desk of the library. It's too hot to go out, so clean out your shelves. Someone else would love your pre-read books, and if you donate some books, you have room-for more books!
