Our final milestone to celebrate is for our Chief Wayne Williams. Wayne had quite a night receiving three distinguished awards.

Wayne was awarded with 60 years of service to our department. He joined the fire department in 1964 and has been a constant member since. He has served as our chief since 1984, a role he still currently holds. Wayne has been instrumental in obtaining apparatus, equipment, and training personnel over his 60 years. Walking in our station, there isn't anything that he hasn't been a part of us getting. Wayne is still very active and can usually be found on the fire scene in command or pumping a truck. Jerusalem Fire Department would not be what it is today without his hard work and dedication.

Wayne received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the North Carolina Office State Fire Marshal. An award dedicated for those that have committed their lives to the betterment of the service.

Lastly, with the help of Cameron Webb, Davie County Fire Marshal Office and Bonita Finney, Chair of the Davie County Board of Commissioners, Wayne was awarded The Order of the Long Leaf Pine. This is the most prestigious award granted by the Governor of North Carolina. It is only awarded to those for exemplary service to the state and ones that go above and beyond the call of duty.

We are beyond grateful for Wayne's dedication. Please help us to congratulate Wayne, and all of our other members.

Today we highlight a tremendous 60 years of dedication to our department for Ed Williams.

Ed joined the department in 1964. He served as the department's training captain for many years leading the training for our members. Ed and his wife Paula hold a unique position within our department. For many years they have both assisted with our finances. To say we would be lost without them is an understatement.

Congratulations Ed on 60 years of dedication to our department!

The next milestone celebrated at our annual dinner was 50 years of service at our department for Joe Beck.

Joe joined the fire department in 1975 and has been a solid and consistent member since. He has served on the Board of Directors, a position he still holds today. He has assisted with the development and purchase of several of our apparatus. Joe is well known for his wittiness and joking nature during our meetings bringing a laugh to many members.

Joe not only received his 50 years of service award from our department, but also a Lifetime Achievement Award from the North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal. This award is a prestigious award presented in recognition of a distinguished career marked by an unwavering commitment to public safety and a history of significant contributions to the firefighting profession.

Please help us in congratulating Joe Beck on his accomplishments.

9:30 AM Fri 3/21: Wildfire danger will be increased across the region today by a combination of low humidity, dry vegetation, and breezy winds. A burn ban is in effect for all of NC and may be enacted by local governments in SC.

03/20/2025

Due to increased fire risk, the N.C. Forest Service has issued a ban on all open burning and has canceled all burning permits statewide effective 8 a.m. Friday, March 21 until further notice.

Under North Carolina law, the ban prohibits all open burning in the affected counties, regardless of whether a permit was previously issued. The issuance of any new permits has also been suspended until the ban is lifted. Anyone violating the burn ban faces a $100 fine plus $183 court costs. Any person responsible for setting a fire may be liable for any expenses related to extinguishing the fire.

The burn ban does not apply to fires started within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling. The local fire marshal has authority to issue a burn ban within that 100 feet.
