Mr. Tommie Carlisle Jr. serves as the District 7 appointee to the City of Mobile Human Relations Commission.
Tommie is a retired veteran from the U.S. Army of 28 years as a combat medic. He has attended the University of Alabama, Park College in Missouri, St. Phillips in Texas, and Webster University of St. Louis, Missouri, and holds a Master’s degree in Management/Health Care. He has continued studies in the area of Management at the University of South Alabama. He is a member of Smith Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Church since 2012.
Tommie has contributed his energies during his earlier years in the struggle for human decency/rights in Birmingham and Jefferson County by participating in marches, demonstrations, and even jailed following the leadership of Dr. Martin Luther King.
He has served on the Board of Directors for Habitat for Humanity, Mobile County as President. He was selected to the first Habitat for Humanity International Board of Directors, representing the southeastern United States and Puerto Rico, and was honored by the Mobile Press-Register. He has served as President of the University of South Alabama Lion’s Club and a graduate of Mobile United’s Leadership Mobile (Class of 2000).
He has also served as a Board member of Family Counseling Services of Mobile. He has been an officer and a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity (Mobile Alumni), where he was selected to be Man of the Year and Citizen of the Year. He currently serves on the board of the Mobile Police Citizens Community Relations Advisory Council.
He is married to his lovely wife Mary (for almost 50 years) and they have two children and three grandchildren.
