Saturday, May 16, is Adventure Safe Day — Utah’s first-ever statewide effort to remind all of us that a little preparation makes a big difference before heading outdoors.
📍 Dead Horse Point State Park is one of the official Adventure Safe Day locations. Stop by to say hi to the team, look for the flags and signage, and pick up free safety checklists, activity books, water bottles, and stickers while learning how to recreate safely across Utah’s public lands.
Andrea Brand, Director of the Sand Flats Recreation Area, shared what she hopes residents and visitors keep top of mind heading into high desert summer:
“Adventure Safe Day is a chance to remind visitors to be safe when recreating in Utah, particularly in the Moab area. The most important thing is to plan your trip. Make sure the trail matches your skill level and stay on the trail. Bring a map and don’t rely solely on your digital device. Ensure your vehicle, bike, or motorcycle is in top operating condition. Sand Flats trails range from intermediate to extreme. Wear appropriate clothes and protective gear. We’re getting into the desert summer season — carry a gallon of water per person per day, electrolytes, and high-energy food. Bring a first-aid kit and a tool kit. Start early in the day to avoid the heat and, importantly, let someone know your itinerary.”
