The classics are live! You can head over to my shop www.foreverwildbotanicals.com to restock on your favorites ☺️

I’m hoping to get some newbies in the shop this week as well, moving is rough… but I at least have my herb boxes open, I just can’t decide where to put them yet..

I also learned that my new town doesn’t have as large of a selection of bulk herbs as my previous home. So instead of sauntering down to my local co-op to pick up herbs I will have to order online, wish me luck.

But on the bright side, we fenced off a big giant garden area yesterday and today I picked up a elderberry bush, yarrow, echinacea, hops, and strawberries to plant and use for products next season. 🌻

This little spaghetti looking plant is an interesting species called Dodder. It’s yellow because it doesn’t have chlorophyll, it doesn’t have chlorophyll because it doesn’t need to produce its own, it steals it, from other plants.

Dodder is a parasitic plant with a root like organ along its stem called haustoria. As it wraps it self around a host it imbeds its root in the tissue of the host plant. There’s many species of Dodder native and non, this one in particular I assume is the Alfalfa Dodder (Cuscuta approximata) due to the fact that it is feeding on Alfalfa (Medicago sativa).

A cool thing about dodder is that it starts it’s life with shallow roots and seeks out the scent of a host plant, growing its way along until it finds the plant it seeks. Once the Dodder is attached to its host, it abandons its little roots all together completely living off the host plant.

Things might be a little quiet around here while we are preparing to move to Missoula on July 29th and then boondock it for two weeks while waiting for our new house to open up. The store will stay open for now but then close down probably on the 22nd, reopening on August 19th.

This is Salsify it’s a invasive w**d, and you can eat the root. Do some research about it and find some fun dishes to make and dig up all the ones you find! People actually purposely plant these, you can buy seeds from most retailers. But a good homesteader knows what they need to plant and what they can find growing wild 💁🏻‍♀️.

Garlic in my opinion is a great crop to invest your time into. You can grow it anywhere because nothing wants to eat garlic (or onions) except us stinky humans.

You plant it in October and basically forget about it until it’s time to irrigate (March/ April in the desert, May most other places).

My garlic grew throughout the winter because it was so warm this past year and I never irrigated it, I mulched it but most of the mulch blew off.

It’s truly an easy crop, and doesn’t take up much space. You don’t need to buy special seed garlic, you can simply plant organic cloves (non-organic is probably treated so it doesn’t sprout).

The inchelium red, so far, is an amazing garlic and I will definitely plant it again this October. Which is what is pictured here. We also have Metchi and Elephant garlic getting close to harvest.

Electric ⚡️ Kool Aid, a fun new fruity tea is finally listed on my website! It starts off blue then turns a deep red-ish purple as it steeps. It’s lovey, and my favorite way to drink it is over ice.
