As the owner of Oreo's refining I want to thank all of our customers over the last 5 years. You have saved our landfill tonnages of toxic waste. You took the initiative to search out a sustainable business that puts our planet, animals and people first before money. I thank you!!

I'm very sad to announce that Oreo's Refining is now permanently closed. The DEQ of Montana a year and a half ago refuse to re-issue a recycling license. Their reasoning was unjustified. They had been planning not to renew the license for months prior. I tried to fight it and failed.

Oreo's was a small business that did big things. I was no match for the DEQ. They quickly destroyed Oreo's financially. I testify under oath. No one from the DEQ was ever put under oath. They had zero accountability.

I believe that many of the employees of the DEQ are cowards. Those who knew the truth refused to come forward and take responsibility. The DEQ's actions were personal and deliberate.

As the owner I am trying to pick up the pieces. My heart and soul was put into Oreo's. Now I am contemplating where I go from here.

To all of those who believed and supported Oreo's Refining, again I want to thank you. You made a difference.

Blessings to you all,

Shelly Mitchell

Which water is contaminated by e-waste. Can you tell by looking? At the Energy Expo this weekend that was the question. Who got it right? In alphabetical order

It was tough, I know some just had to guess. You can’t always see toxins, heavy metals, poisons. How vital it is to fight to keep our water safe. Around the world and in the US, many do not have safe drinking water. Factories, industry and the dumping of our electronic waste, has lead to contamination of water. As Missoula moves into Zero-waste, it is vitally for businesses and individuals to use e-waste recyclers that puts the plant and people (animals) first and does not export electronic out of the state. Oreo’s is here to serve.

This has nothing to do with e-waste but it's very important. This cup at Peak Performance Physical Therapy in Missoula was full of red single-use plastic straws. The owner, Jill Olson made the change! Sending out a big tail wag from Oreo's to Peak Performance Physical therapy and Jill for doing the right thing because it's the right thing!

So excited!

On behalf of the Jane Kile Scholarship review committee, AERO is excited to announce the selection of Shelly Mitchell as the recipient of the 2019 award. Shelly is the owner of Oreo's Refining in Missoula, an e-waste recycler that is striving to keep chemical contamination from discarded e-waste out of our soil, water, and air. The scholarship funds will go towards purchasing components for a solar-powered mobile e-waste recycling unit that will allow Oreo's to bring their services to communities throughout Montana.

We will feature a more in-depth profile of Shelly's project in the Expo Edition of the Sun Times. There you'll be able to learn more about why we are so excited by Shelly's revolutionary use of renewable energy systems and her commitment to performing a service that will become increasingly important in our tech-dominated world.

Congratulations Shelly!

It has been mentioned in conversation that the US does not illegally export anymore. Sadly it is not true.

"It is clear that the US is positioning itself further as a country that intends to solve its waste problems by dumping them on their global neighbors. And these are often unsuspecting, weaker, and at times, impoverished countries...To protect themselves, we urge countries to adopt the same import restrictions that China has put in place, to beef up border controls, and finally, to ratify the Basel Ban Amendment." - Basel Action Network

The US is the sole member of the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) -- the group of 36 developed nations, that has chosen to object to the adoption of recently agreed Basel Convention trade controls to ensure that plastic wastes that are dirty and mixed and thus difficult to
