Spring is in full effect on the Lolo National Forest and this weekend many campgrounds will be opening and for more information on which campgrounds are open please visit www.fs.usda.gov/r01/lolo/recreation/camping-cabins.

As we enter into the holiday weekend there are some important things you should know before heading out to recreate.

⚠ A closure order is in effect for Seeley Lake Campground C Loop Road. Please visit our webpage to learn more at www.fs.usda.gov/r01/lolo/alerts. Also, Grizzly Campground will not be opening as planned for this weekend due to severe damage from the weather event. For your health and safety we ask to please respect all closed areas. ❗

Forest Service crews are still working to clear roads and trails across the forest from the major weather this past winter. If you are out on the forest this weekend and encounter downed trees please let us know by going to www.fs.usda.gov/r01/lolo where you can send us a direct message.

As of today you can secure your firewood permit online by going to epermits.fs2c.usda.gov/forest/0116. Permits are still free and we ask that if you plan on harvesting fire wood to do so safely and responsibly. Be mindful of hazardous trees and always wear the proper safety equipment while running a chainsaw.

Please plan ahead, Know Before You Go, and pack out what you pack in. We appreciate your patience while the Lolo staff continues to work diligently at making areas safe to recreate this spring and summer. Have a great holiday weekend.

Today crews from the Missoula Ranger District were out opening gates on Forest Service Roads. While out they encountered trees down across some sections of road from the storm event that hit western Montana last fall. They got to work clearing the debris for safe traveling and on to unlocking and opening gates. If you are out enjoying the forest this weekend we ask you to please recreate responsibly and if you encounter down trees on trails or roads please reach out to the Lolo and let us know. For more information on how to contact the Lolo about downed trees please go to www.fs.usda.gov/r01/lolo. Thank you for your patience as our crews continue to remove downed trees throughout the Lolo this spring and summer and we hope to see you out on the forest.
