It is the vision of the Montana Museum of Art and Culture to serve as:
a celebrated fine arts and cultural museum;
a national model for university museums;
a bridge between the students, faculty, and staff of the University of Montana and the wider community;
a significant contributor to the University of Montana's academic research and scholarly activities;
the best possible stewards of its noteworthy Permanent Collection, increasing its public value, integrity, and accessibility using the highest professional standards; and
creators of a legacy for future generations by honoring, preserving, and developing our shared artistic heritage. History
Located on the University of Montana campus in Missoula, MT, the MMAC is the state's oldest, deepest, and most comprehensive collection of art with a Permanent Collection begun in 1894. Formerly known as the "Museum of Fine Arts," it was administered by the School of Fine Arts until 2001 when it was recognized as the state's third museum and became a unit of the University's President's Office. In 2018, it became an affiliate unit of the College of the Arts and Media and in 2023, it opened a state-of-the-art facility, its first permanent home in its history.
