We all know how important our parks and trails are to our quality of life. At the request of more than 100 citizens, businesses, organizations and community leaders, the Missoula County Commissioners have placed a measure on the November ballot that would authorize a $42 million, 20-year general obligation bond for our parks and trails, including the development of the long-awaited Fort Missoula R
egional Park. The average cost to homeowners would be approximately $3 per month over the life of the bond. There are three components to the parks and trails bond:
1 - Maintain and improve our city parks and aging playgrounds to improve safety and provide better access to active play opportunities throughout our community. Vote YES so that Missoula can build new, state-of-the-art playgrounds that will meet the needs of children of a variety of ages. Nearly 90% of Missoula families with young kids visit local parks. Nearly 70% of all Missoula households regularly visit local parks and playgrounds.
2 - Develop Fort Missoula Regional Park, complete with tournament-quality sports fields for all sports users, active and passive trails, a dog park, pavilion and much more. Vote YES for improved playgrounds, trails, facilities and fields at Fort Missoula that will attract new visitors, boost our economy and provide much-needed amenities for Missoula City and County residents. Three out of five Missoula County residents regularly use Fort Missoula Regional Park. New athletic fields will allow Missoula to host regional and national tournaments, attract new visitors and help boost the local economy.
3 - Maintain, build and invest in our County trails program. Vote YES to maintain and develop trails throughout the county that will allow Missoula County residents and visitors to enjoy our world-class natural resources and opportunities for outdoor recreation. An overwhelming number of Missoula County residents bike, hike or ski on local trails, and 75% of Missoula County households hike, bike or cross-country ski on those trails. Over 66% of Missoula County residents believe they would benefit from better trails
