Mark Mclaverty for Judge

Mark Mclaverty for Judge Elect an experienced, common sense candidate for Missoula Municipal Judge. Elect Mark McLaverty. I was born the ninth of ten children to proud Irish parents.

My name is Mark McLaverty, and I am running for Missoula Municipal Court Judge. For more than 20 years, I have been representing Missoulians from all backgrounds. I have worked as a private practice attorney, public defender, Assistant Attorney General, additionally it has been my honor to serve as a substitute judge for several years for both the city and county. I have the proven leadership and

team-building skills necessary to run a professional office setting with several employees which is critical to success in the municipal court. My father was a physician and moved the family to Missoula before I turned a year old. This was the best decision ever made for me. I am fortunate to live in such a wonderful community and received my entire education here – Lewis and Clark Elementary, Sentinel High School, University of Montana undergrad, and UM Law. In 1998, I married Julia Anne McCarthy-McLaverty and together we have two children, Rory and Annie. They keep our lives busy and interesting with their various actives and sports. My wife and I consider ourselves very fortunate that we live in a community where we can take an active role in our children’s education and even coach a few sports. When I’m not working I enjoy fishing, rafting, hiking, pheasant hunting, reading, and enjoying all Missoula has to offer with my family. I have been active in a number of organizations including the Ducks Unlimited, Trout Unlimited, YMCA Coach, Missoula Youth Football Coach, Bitterroot CASA, Elks Club, World Affairs Council, Missoula Trap and S***t Club, and Board of Directors for the Federal Public Defenders of Montana. I also contributed to several historical magazines and books, including those on the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln, Montana Mining Act, Irish in Montana, Shoeless Joe Jackson, Rube Marquard and other baseball legends.

Ann Wilson had only just started the opening lines of “Stairway to Heaven” when everyone inside the Kennedy Center could feel something extraordinary unfolding. Her voice filled the hall with stunning purity, drawing every gaze toward the balcony where Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, and John Paul Jones sat in silent awe. The moment reached a powerful turning point when Jason Bonham took his place behind the drums, paying heartfelt tribute to his father with every strike. As the choir swelled and the final notes rose into an emotional climax, the weight of the tribute became impossible to ignore—Robert Plant was seen wiping away tears as Ann’s performance turned the entire stage into a living, timeless memory.

Ann Wilson stepped onto The View set with the quiet, rock-legend authority of a woman who has commanded stages for five decades — not knowing the conversation was about to spiral far beyond music.

No producer cue warned them. No delay button could save them. And by the time Whoopi Goldberg leaned back and said sharply, “LET’S NOT TURN THIS INTO A MORAL LECTURE,” the room already knew — something had gone very wrong.

The audience stiffened. Cameras tightened their frame.

Ann was no longer a guest. She was the moment.

She folded her hands once, deliberately. Not defensive. Not angry. Just steady.

“WHOOPI,” Ann said evenly, her voice carrying that famous, earth-shaking resonance even in a whisper. “WHEN YOU INVITE SOMEONE ON THIS SHOW TO TALK ABOUT GIVING BACK — YOU DON’T GET TO MOCK THE VALUES THAT MOTIVATED THAT GIVING IN THE FIRST PLACE.”

A ripple of gasps. Joy Behar glanced sideways. Sunny Hostin lowered her notes.

Whoopi’s jaw tightened. “THIS IS A TALK SHOW,” she shot back. “WE QUESTION NARRATIVES HERE. WE DON’T JUST APPLAUD THEM.”

Ann nodded slowly.

“QUESTIONING ISN’T THE PROBLEM,” she replied. “CONTROL IS.”

Silence pressed down hard.

“You celebrate generosity,” Ann continued, her voice pure but cutting, “AS LONG AS IT COMES FROM PEOPLE WHO THINK LIKE YOU, TALK LIKE YOU, AND BELIEVE WHAT YOU FIND CONVENIENT.”

Whoopi leaned forward now. “ARE YOU SAYING THIS PANEL IS BIASED?”

“I’M SAYING,” Ann answered, tapping the desk once with a hand that has rocked a thousand stadiums, “YOU LOVE THE CHECK.” Another tap. “YOU LOVE THE HEADLINE.” A final tap. “BUT YOU’RE UNCOMFORTABLE WITH THE HEART BEHIND IT — SO YOU TRY TO REWRITE IT.”

Ana Navarro whispered, “Oh wow…”

Whoopi raised her voice. “WE ARE NOT HERE TO BE USED AS A PLATFORM—”

“NO,” Ann interrupted gently. “YOU’RE HERE TO BE A MIRROR.” She held Whoopi’s gaze with the same intensity she uses to belt out "Barracuda." “AND SOMETIMES THE REFLECTION MAKES PEOPLE ANGRY.”

The studio froze.

Then Ann stood.

She reached up, unclipped her microphone, and held it loosely — not in defiance, but in decision.

“You CAN frame generosity however you want,” she said softly. “You can edit it. Question it. Package it.”

A beat.

“But you don’t get to decide whose compassion is ‘acceptable.’”

She placed the mic on the desk.

One quiet nod. No raised voice. No apology.

Ann Wilson turned and walked off the set — leaving behind a panel that suddenly realized they no longer controlled the story.

Comments exploded within seconds.
