State of Delaware sent an engine with a 3 person Crew to California. 3000 miles. Crew will be replaced with new Crew after 14 days.

This is a grand waste of taxpayers money.

US Forest Service has agreements with private contractors for about 415 type 2 crews.

The contracting officer will not provide information about who the contractors are, where the crews are located, nor the hourly bid rate. This information was available in past years.

I am creating a wildland fire academy to assist experienced firefighters develop into higher paying positions such as FFT1, squad leader, crewboss and engine boss.
The academy, known as SWIFT, includes training. Taskbooks and experience.
We are starting with 10 to 15 canidates. Contact me if you wish.

RMFC has posted our 2019 training plan. We are offering walk and pack tests, RT-130, FFT2, FFT1, S-212 SAW

As an incentive to complete our FFT2 basic traing, We will perfom VIPR fire qualification verrifications for people who pass our Basic FFT2 COURSE and help place them with cooperating contractors.

RMFC is well engaged in developing our 2019 fire plan. Our training plan will be set in january. As soon as spring springs we will be engaged in engine and water tender inspection for the 2019 VIPR solicitations in Region 1 and 6. We expect the R1 solicitation to be posted around February 1.

RMFC plans to field 9 engines with VIPR and 1 to 2 type 2 crews with Montana DNRC.

El Nino looks solid through spring. Moisture April through June will be major influence on fire season. Carry ovwr Fine fuel loading in eastern montana should be above normal
