The University of Montana Police Department (UMPD) serves and protects the students, staff, faculty, and all people and property within the University of Montana campus and properties. Both Police Dispatchers and Officers are on duty 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Our Police Officers and Dispatchers are certified and trained by the Montana Law Enforcement Academy (MLEA). UM Police Officers have the exclusive responsibility to act upon law-enforcement matters and perform police functions for the UM Main Campus and the Missoula College. UM Police Officers investigate all crimes and enforce federal, state, and local laws as well as University of Montana policies. All sworn UMPD officers have successfully completed training at the Montana Law Enforcement Academy (MLEA) or equivalent training recognized by the Montana Peace Officer Standards and Training Council. Our officers have the same authority and powers of arrest as any officer in the state In addition to the MLEA training, UMPD officers receive additional training throughout the year.

As e-scooters become a common way to get around campus, UMPD reminds riders to make safety a priority. Obey traffic laws, stay alert, yield to pedestrians, wear a helmet, and ride at a safe speed. Avoid riding distracted or impaired, use proper lighting at night, and always lock your scooter when not in use.

As fans return to Washington-Grizzly Stadium, the University of Montana Police Department reminds the campus community to make safety a priority throughout gameday.

• Review stadium policies before arriving.
• Arrive early and plan for increased traffic and security screening.
• Remain aware of your surroundings and report suspicious activity.
• Keep personal belongings secured and with you at all times.
• Monitor weather conditions and prepare accordingly.
• If consuming alcohol, do so responsibly and arrange a safe, sober ride home.
• Follow directions from law enforcement, event staff, and emergency personnel.

🏈 GAMEDAY IS HERE, GRIZ FANS!🐻

As we kick off the first football game of the season, UMPD reminds everyone to plan ahead and make safety part of your gameday routine. Be aware weather is expected tonight.

Before you head to the stadium:
• Check Washington-Grizzly Stadium’s policies before arriving so you know what is permitted through the gates.
• Check the weather and come prepared for changing conditions. Dress appropriately, stay hydrated, and be prepared to seek shelter if severe weather develops.
• Arrive early and expect security screening. Gates open at 5:30pm
• Keep your belongings secure and your surroundings in sight.
• Have a plan for getting home safely. Never drive impaired.
• Stay with your friends and look out for one another.
• If you see something concerning or need assistance, contact stadium staff or law enforcement.

Have fun, stay alert, and GO GRIZ! 🐻🏈
