With streets around the Missoula County Courthouse closed on Friday, May 24, for filming of the “Yellowstone” TV series, county staff encourage residents seeking services at the courthouse to allow for additional time to find parking or to take advantage of online options.

In particular, the Missoula County Clerk & Treasurer's Office encourages members of the public who need to pay their property taxes ahead of the May 31 due date to do so online at https://itax.missoulacounty.us/itax/ Vehicle registration renewals can also be processed online at http://missoulaclerk.us/

If unable to pay online, residents should be aware they will not be able to park in spaces directly outside the courthouse or nearby blocks. The closest available parking will be south of Broadway Street, such as in the Central Park Garage at the corner of Main and Ryman. An accessible parking spot will be available in the lot on the west side of the courthouse annex.

Ryman Street between Broadway and Pine and Pine Street between Woody and Ryman will be closed to all traffic on Friday (see map). Detours will be clearly marked. The closures will not affect access to the courthouse, and Fire and Ice Productions will set up signs and have staff present to help direct the public.

Residents who need to pay taxes, title a vehicle, renew their vehicle registration or access other Clerk and Treasurer services during these closures can also take advantage of the virtual queue system that allows them to join the line before they get to the courthouse. Members of the public can join the queue from home, work or elsewhere by texting “Missoula Clerk” to 406-285-7490 or through the online portal at https://missoulaq.us/

Missoula County is saddened by the death of former County Commissioner and Clerk and Recorder/Treasurer Fern Hart. Her term as county commissioner took place during an unbroken string of all-female county commissioners in Missoula from 1985 until 1994. According to a 1998 article in the Missoulian about her retirement, Hart was known for her hospitality towards residents:

“‘She always took care of the customers when the lines became long,’ recalled Missoula Chief Administrative Officer Janet Stevens ... "‘That was one of the things she brought to the county that wasn't there prior to her presence. It was real typical of what you'd find in private business. She brought that customer concept into county government.’”

Due to a Charter equipment outage, Missoula County is currently unable to provide services or process transactions that rely on state systems. This includes processing motor vehicle transactions and issuing birth and death certificates. All initial appearances also will take place the the detention facility today because of the outage.

We'll have those up and running again as soon as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Meet Ted, a treasurer clerk in the Missoula County Treasurer’s Office.

Ted is from Hays, Montana, and is a member of the A’Ahanii (Gros Ventre) Tribe out of Fort Belknap. He has lived in the Missoula area for about 15 years and has worked at Missoula County since last year.

“I'm fairly social, so I enjoy talking to my customers each day. I also appreciate my supervisors and coworkers for making this job such a great opportunity,” he said about his position. When he’s not at work, Ted enjoys playing volleyball and tennis. He also has a knack for sewing and says he likes “making native dance regalia for almost anyone who asks.”

The Treasurer’s Office is hiring! Visit http://missoula.co/jobs and apply to work with Ted.
