The future of food manufacturing in Texas is being built right here in Mission.

Congratulations to Habibi Gourmet on achieving SQF Certification, a globally recognized food safety and quality standard that marks an exciting milestone in the company’s growth. This achievement strengthens its ability to expand manufacturing operations and produce products for major retail partners, including H-E-B, right here in Mission, Texas.

Led by Pilar Gonzalez, Habibi Gourmet and Dip It by Pilar have grown from generations of family recipes into a thriving Texas brand found on store shelves across the state. This certification reflects the company’s commitment to quality, innovation, and operational excellence while highlighting the growing strength of Mission’s manufacturing sector.

We are proud to celebrate this accomplishment and look forward to seeing Habibi Gourmet continue bringing the flavors of South Texas to families across the state and beyond.

Mission continues to grow its hospitality footprint.

This week, we celebrated the grand opening of Mission’s newest hotel development by OceanGate Hospitality, bringing new investment, expanded lodging capacity, and increased opportunities for tourism and economic growth in our community.

Strategically located near the Mission Event Center, the new Candlewood Suites and Avid hotel strengthen Mission’s ability to attract conferences, sporting events, business travelers, and visitors from across the region.

Developments like this help drive hotel occupancy tax revenue, support local businesses, and reinforce Mission’s momentum as a destination city.

Building a business takes more than a good idea, it takes the right conversations, connections, and planning. 🧠

Today’s Mission Mindshare session at the CEED focused on the business side of long-term success with “Life in Business,” led by Leslie M. Bowman and Alexis Guerra of New York Life Insurance Company.

The discussion explored the “3 T’s” of business ownership — Today, Taxes, and Tomorrow — giving entrepreneurs practical insight on financial preparedness, planning ahead, and building businesses designed to last.

Mission Mindshare continues bringing Mission’s entrepreneurs together to connect, learn, and grow alongside one another.

Economic development also means being prepared.

Today, the Mission Economic Development Corporation hosted the City of Mission’s Emergency Readiness Meeting at the CEED, bringing together local and regional partners focused on emergency coordination, planning, and response efforts.

As Mission continues to grow, emergency preparedness remains closely tied to economic development, business continuity, and community resiliency. From supporting small businesses and workforce initiatives to protecting critical infrastructure and maintaining daily operations, preparation plays an important role in ensuring Mission is equipped to respond during times of crisis.

The session was conducted in collaboration with the Texas Division of Emergency Management, alongside Chief Robert Alvarez, Mission Fire Deputy Chief Richard Cruz, and city departments working to strengthen emergency readiness efforts across Mission.

Small businesses drive innovation, create jobs, and fuel economic growth across our region, making the 2026 Governor’s Small Business Summit in Mission an impactful day of connection and collaboration.

The Mission EDC supported this year’s summit hosted by the Texas Economic Development & Tourism Office and the Greater Mission Chamber of Commerce, bringing together entrepreneurs, business leaders, and resource partners from across the Rio Grande Valley.

MEDC CEO Teclo J. Garcia moderated the “Winning Workforce Strategies: Recruiting & Developing Local Talent” panel alongside representatives from Workforce Solutions, Texas State Technical College, and Junior’s Supermarket, with discussion centered on workforce investment, talent development, and strengthening regional business capacity.
