In recognition of Labor Day, I am honoring labor rights pioneer and New Deal champion Frances Perkins -- who served as U.S. Secretary of Labor throughout President Franklin D. Roosevelt's four-term presidency. As one of the most trailblazing women in the history of the U.S. government, Perkins is largely responsible for many of the New Deal reforms including the creation of child labor laws, social security, unemployment insurance, and the federal minimum wage.

In addition to her tremendous legacy on behalf of American workers, Perkins was also a trailblazer for women as the first female Cabinet member.

And she was a social worker too! 👊 🥰

🌿 Proud to have joined my colleagues with investing grant funds to restore our County’s prairies and other habitats. Johnson County has just 0.006% of its untouched prairie left. 🌿

Restoring the natural prairie is crucial for the area’s ecosystem and natural water systems. It effectively locks pollution in the ground, preventing it from entering creeks and stormwater basins.

Projects included in the new Green Infrastructure Grant Program:
☘️Wetland restoration at Shawnee Mission Park
🌸Restoration of prairie and woodland areas
🌳 Improvements to the Blue River’s riverbank corridor
🌻 Biodiversity plantings at Thomas S. Stoll Memorial Park

Back to school SMSD Luncheon with Superintendent Dr. Michael Schumacher.🎓 I’m thrilled to have won the raffle and received an incredible gift box. I am rarely that lucky, thank you to the donation by Clinical Counseling Associates. 🎉

Johnson County’s thriving community is a testament to the strength of our schools. These schools attract residents and families, creating a welcoming environment for raising children.

Thank you to Broadmoor Bistro for the fabulous meal and wonderful hospitality and NEJOCO Chamber for sponsoring the luncheon.

During my last year as Roeland Park City Council President, before joining the County Commission, I proposed preserving our city’s history and educating the community about its people, places, and events. I envisioned historical signs and a book documenting our rich history.

I have always believed that if you don’t know where you have been, you won’t know where you are going.

Nine years later, it was incredibly meaningful to see that dream become a reality with the ribbon cutting of the first historical sign, placed in front of City Hall.

Preserving our history isn’t just about looking back—it’s about honoring those who came before us, understanding how our community became what it is today, and making sure future generations know the story of where they call home.

I’m proud to have planted the seed nine years ago, and even prouder to see it now taking root. What a wonderful way to preserve our city’s legacy for generations to come! ❤️

Thank you to everyone who came to our Meet and Mingle in Merriam! It was such a great turnout, and I had a fantastic time meeting so many neighbors. I’m so thankful for the chance to hear your ideas and chat about what’s next for Johnson County. A special thank you to the organizers Roxie Drautz, and to Jeff and Diana Patterson for hosting the event and opening up their lovely historic home. Mayor Pape also shared some gracious and kind words about how well Merriam and Johnson County work together on many projects from flood control to libraries to road improvements. 🌻

Your support, encouragement, and enthusiasm mean the world to me. I’m truly grateful to have you on this journey with me! 🙏
