In honor of June’s designation of National Foster-a-Pet Month, Mission Viejo Animal Services Center is seeking dedicated individuals to foster homeless pets in need, particularly a puppy whose leg will have to be amputated.

Ranger is an 8-month-old mixed-breed dog that clearly had a rough start to life. He has scars on his muzzle where it was tied shut and an old injury to his leg. Sadly, his leg cannot be saved, so the center’s nonprofit Dedicated Animal Welfare Group (DAWG) will sponsor an amputation of his right front leg, and Ranger will need to be in a foster home while it heals.

There are many advantages to fostering animals waiting for their forever homes as longtime Mission Viejo Animal Services Center volunteer and foster Shawn Claybaugh states in this personal, heartwarming letter:https://www.missionviejo.gov/sites/default/files/2026-06/fostering-saves-lives.pdf

If you are interested in helping little Ranger and other animals in need by being a foster, contact 949-470-3045.

Celebrate the start of the City’s America 250 summer on Saturday, July 4 at the annual Street Faire & Fireworks Spectacular. 🎆🇺🇸❤️🤍💙

Hosted by MVAC, the festivities are from noon to 9 pm on Olympiad between Marguerite Parkway and Melinda Road.

The event promises a day of fun for the entire family with live entertainment, thrilling rides, delicious offerings from various food trucks, and exciting games. More than 40 booths will showcase a variety of crafts and gift items for you to explore.

As the day ends, prepare to be dazzled by a spectacular fireworks show that will light up the sky over Mission Viejo at 9 pm.

Admission to the Street Faire is free. Tickets for games and rides can be purchased at the event. To promote eco-friendly practices, residents are encouraged to bike to the event. While bicycles are not allowed within the Street Faire, bike racks will be available at each entrance to the enclosed area at Melinda and the Lake entrance.

A complimentary shuttle service will run from noon to 8 pm with stops at 12 designated locations around Lake Mission Viejo. Pets, skateboards, rollerblades, bicycles, e-bicycles, and grills are not permitted within the street closures.

The public can bring broken items to fix on the spot with the help of volunteers during the next Repair Cafe OC event from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm on Saturday, June 27 at the Norman P. Murray Center, 24932 Veterans Way.

This initiative promotes repair as an alternative to tossing things away. Bring your broken lamps, bikes with a wobble or jeans with a hole – and repair volunteers will help you fix them.

Volunteers are sought from 8 am to 1 pm and can sign up at https://ow.ly/asWA50ZbWUu.

Neighbors with items in need of repair don’t need to pre-register. All items are repaired on a walk-in basis, with last item accepted at noon. The event takes place in the community center’s Palo Verde room.

See the FAQs page (https://ow.ly/SlO650ZbWUv) to understand the repair process. For more information, contact [email protected] or visit Repair Cafe OC.

The Mission Viejo Marines and Sailors Adoption Committee, City of Mission Viejo, and Mission Viejo Community Foundation are seeking support from residents, businesses and organizations to benefit the 16th Annual "Tee It Up Fore Marines" Golf Tournament.

Sponsorship packages range from $200 to $5,000. The fee for an individual golfer is $250, and a foursome is $1,000. Organizers are also seeking donations for silent auction and opportunity drawing items.

Tournament proceeds support the programs the Mission Viejo Marines and Sailors Adoption Committee offers military personnel and their families. Your generosity will be recognized in the event program.

The tournament takes place on Friday, October 16 at the scenic Marine Memorial Golf Course at Camp Pendleton. It will be a great day to celebrate our Marine heroes as well as to strengthen our community relationships!

On Saturday, June 6, Mission Viejo Animal Services Center (MVAS) took part in California Adopt-A-Pet Day for the second year in a row. This year, MVAS helped 18 animals find new homes during regular business hours — that included 5 dogs and 13 cats and kittens. MVAS volunteers played a huge role in making this happen by helping showcase the animals and introducing them to potential adopters. Their support really made a difference in connecting pets with the right families. 💕🐾🙏

The event not only helps animals find loving homes but also shows the community’s commitment to animal welfare and responsible pet ownership.
