The City of Mission Viejo and Orange County Sheriff’s Department will host the 38th Annual Walk Against Drugs from 8 am to 12 pm on Saturday, October 17.

The event kicks off at 8 am with a rally at Mission Viejo High School (25025 Chrisanta Drive) highlighted by a motivational speech from this year’s keynote speaker, Actress Kayden Tokarski.

After the rally, participants will walk together up La Paz Road through the Oso Creek Trail and end at the Village Green at Oso Viejo Community Park (24932 Veterans Way) for the Community Fair and South County Disaster Preparedness Expo.

The Community Fair and South County Disaster Preparedness Expo will feature a meet and greet with Kayden Tokarski. The expo will also boast displays from various community organizations, face painting, inflatables, and food trucks. The South County Disaster Preparedness Expo will feature displays from the Orange County Fire Authority and Orange County Sheriff’s Department such as the Mounted Enforcement Units, SWAT, K-9 Units, Search & Rescue, Hazardous Device Section, and Air Support Bureau.

The walk is for all ages, and the first 1,000 participants will receive a free event T-shirt.

PRESS RELEASE: Fatal Traffic Collision in Mission Viejo, Two Drivers Arrested

On Thursday, Aug. 20, at 9:41 p.m., deputies responded to the area of Los Alisos Boulevard and Mustang Run in Mission Viejo regarding a solo vehicle traffic collision.

Deputies arrived and found Shalia Deciderio, a 21-year-old female from Rancho Santa Margarita, deceased. A preliminary investigation revealed the cause of the accident was as a result of street racing. The driver of the vehicle, involved in the collision, Jaime Rojas, 20-year-old of Mission Viejo, was transported to the hospital. The driver of the other vehicle, Aiden Deciderio, 20-year-old of Rancho Santa Margarita, remained at the scene. Both drivers were arrested for Vehicular Manslaughter With Gross Negligence.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is conducting the investigation into this fatal collision. NEWS RELEASE: Fatal Traffic Collision in Mission Viejo, Driver Arrested for DUI.

On Saturday, August 8, at 9:19 p.m., deputies responded to the area of Pacific Crest Drive and Glenwood Drive in Mission Viejo regarding a traffic collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian.

Deputies arrived and found Duo Ying Liang, a 60-year-old female from Mission Viejo, on the ground with severe injuries. She was transported to a local area hospital by the Orange County Fire Authority. She succumbed to her injuries on Sunday, August 9. The driver of the vehicle, Caleb Thomas Baeza, 18 years old of Mission Viejo, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and was booked into the Orange County Jail.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is conducting the investigation into this fatal collision. Friendly reminder, your car registration has an expiration date and deputies do check. 👀

Don't let an expired registration turn your quick errand into an unexpected tow trip. Vehicles with expired registration can be cited, towed, and impounded, leaving you with a much bigger bill than your renewal fee. So please, check your registration and renew if it's expired.
