THEY'RE PUTTING IN THE WORK - ARE YOU NEXT?
Our newest recruit class is putting in the sweat and reps to earn their badge with the Mishawaka Fire Department. Seeing their hard work in training is a great reminder: registration for our 2027 Recruit Class is still open, but time is running out!

If you've been thinking about starting your professional firefighting career, don't wait until it's too late. Under our updated hiring process, physical testing comes first- passing the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) this October is your key to unlocking the full application and written aptitude test. And it all starts by filling out the online form.

Key Dates for Recruit Candidates:
- Registration Deadline: September 28, 2026, at 4:00p
- Mandatory Recruit Orientations: October 5th or 6th from 6:00p-7:00p. *Recruits must attend one session!*
- CPAT Timed Practices: October 9th and October 16th, time slots between 5:00p-7:00p
- Final CPAT Test: October 24th, time slots between 9:00a-11:00a

Congratulations, Mayor Dave Wood!

Last night, Mayor Dave Wood was honored as the 2026 Elected Official of the Year at the Indiana Fire & EMS Leadership Conference.

This recognition is especially meaningful because it honors an elected official who has demonstrated exceptional support for Indiana’s fire and emergency services—and Mayor Wood’s commitment to public safety has been evident throughout his years of service to Mishawaka.

Mayor Wood has long maintained that public safety is one of the most important responsibilities of local government, and he has consistently backed those words with action. From investing in modern fire apparatus and equipment, to replacing aging fire stations with state-of-the-art facilities, supporting competitive pay and benefits, and now helping make our new Police and Fire Training Facility a reality, he has continually invested in the people who protect our community.

Beyond Mishawaka, Mayor Wood has also been a strong advocate for local government at the state level, fighting to protect the resources communities rely upon to continue providing high-quality police, fire, and EMS services.

Mayor Wood supports our department as we continue to move forward and improve, while always respecting the traditions and people who built the Mishawaka Fire Department into what it is today.

Mayor Wood was joined at last night’s ceremony by his wife, Jaimi, Fire Chief Jester, Assistant Chief Bennett, and Assistant Chief Thomas.

On behalf of the men and women of the Mishawaka Fire Department, congratulations to Mayor Dave Wood, the 2026 Elected Official of the Year!
