Mishawaka Fire IAFF Local 360 rescued two people from a second story window at a Wednesday morning duplex fire.

Mishawaka Fire Department crews were dispatched to the fire around 3:30 a.m. Residents in the downstairs apartment safely evacuated, while fire fighters quickly identified occupants trapped upstairs. Local 360 members deployed a ground ladder and safely rescued both individuals through a second-story window. One person was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

This incident highlights the dedication, training, and professionalism of our Local 360 members. Their quick actions and commitment to serving others helped save lives and protect the Mishawaka community. Great work by everyone involved.

Today is Ladder Climb Day for several prospective candidates hoping to join the Mishawaka Fire Department.

As part of our hiring process, candidates must complete a climb to the top rung of one of our aerial ladders before safely descending back to the ground. While simple in concept, the evolution serves as an important evaluation of a candidate’s ability to manage heights, maintain composure, and perform under pressure.

This job demands courage, confidence, and the ability to operate in challenging environments. Today is one more step in identifying those ready to answer that call.

Good luck to all of the candidates participating today.

This morning, members of MFD with Instructor certifications met at the Mishawaka Fire Training Facility to perform live fire scenarios for our newest member, lateral transfer Chase Bair. Each new hire is sent through an in-house academy put on by MFD personnel to get them trained up and ready to work at our standards on day 1 on the trucks.
Today, Chase was able to successfully navigate and complete tasks including fire attack on a first floor, basement fire attack, and search & rescue, all with real fire.
With this being the final requirement for the academy, Chase will be brought on from rookie to probationary firefighter tomorrow in a closed, in-house, traditional ceremony.
Thanks to the members for working and congratulations to Chase on wrapping up your academy!
