With the end of Women's History Month, we are proud to spotlight Deputy Chief Tara Wagner. She has dedicated 25 years of service to Miramar Fire-Rescue . One of the most rewarding parts of her job is the ability to help the staff continue to support the community. She decided to go into this profession when she had an experience as a teenager that had a difficult outcome, which led her to want to know what to do in a medical situation and purse a career where she could help others in critical moments. One piece of advice she would give to the younger female generation is to make it your priority to be strong, capable, and intelligent.

We thank all of the incredible women of Miramar Fire-Rescue for their dedication, strength, and the impact they make in our community every day.

We were honored to be able to present retired Miramar Firefighter/Paramedic Jorge Gonzalez with the Distinguished Service Award today, for his actions while off-duty. FF Gonzalez witnessed a particularly bad car accident and didn’t hesitate to jump into action and was a pivotal asset to keeping this scene as safe as possible for the individuals in the vehicle and bystanders. He provided medical care with minimal equipment, and kept the scene under control prior to the crews’ arrival. Thank you for your service, on and off the clock!

As we reflect on the challenges we faced during the COVID-19 pandemic, it is essential to take a moment to both recognize and celebrate the incredible dedication of our first responders and the resilience of our community.

We are presenting each member of our Department a COVID-19 pin to thank them for their tireless efforts, and to serve as a reminder of everything we all went through to emerge stronger on the other side.

We are honored to present the very first pin to Captain Manny Esparza, one of the individuals who was here at the start of COVID and instrumental in our success as a Department navigating the pandemic.
