🇺🇸 Veterans on the Water
A few Oscoda County veterans recently joined veterans from across northern Michigan for a canoe and kayak trip at White’s Canoe Livery in Sterling. The trip was sponsored by the Arenac County Vet Center and the Saginaw VA, and brought together veterans from Oscoda, Alpena, Arenac, Bay, Saginaw, and Crawford counties.

It looks like they had a great time getting outdoors, spending time together, and enjoying some well-earned camaraderie. We love seeing our Oscoda County veterans take advantage of opportunities like this and connect with veterans from neighboring counties.

A big thank-you to the Arenac County Vet Center and Saginaw VA for making the trip possible, and to everyone who participated.

Veterans connecting with veterans — that’s what it’s about.

🇺🇸 Need Help? The Michigan Veterans Trust Fund May Be an Option

Unexpected financial emergencies happen. For eligible veterans and their families, the Michigan Veterans Trust Fund (MVTF) may be able to provide emergency financial assistance when other resources are not available.

And you don't have to figure out the state program on your own. Oscoda County Veterans Affairs can help local veterans apply right here in Oscoda County.

MVTF assistance may be available for qualifying emergency needs such as utilities, housing-related expenses, and other essential needs. Each situation is different, and eligibility and documentation requirements apply.

If you're facing a financial emergency, contact us before assuming there isn't help available. We can talk through your situation, determine what programs may apply, and help you with the application process.

☕🎨 Coffee Social: Art Gallery Edition

Our October Coffee Social is going to look a little different.

On Tuesday, October 20, we're holding a special pop-up Art Gallery Edition of our Coffee Social. For this special event, our office will feature original paintings by one local veteran widow and artist.

Come enjoy coffee and refreshments, visit with others, browse the artwork, and enter for a chance to win one of our Coffee Social door prizes. Everyone attending can enter, and no purchase is necessary.

Paintings from our featured artist will also be available for purchase, but there is absolutely no pressure to buy. This is still our Coffee Social first. Come for the coffee, conversation, and community.

🇺🇸 Many Hands Make Light Work
A big thank you to everyone who came out this morning to help get the Oscoda County Veterans Memorial Park cleaned up and ready for winter.

Our volunteers pulled w**ds, laid cardboard for w**d control, moved and spread woodchips, and cleaned up the garden areas around the memorial.

It took some work, but what a difference a few helping hands can make.

The Veterans Memorial Park belongs to our community and honors the men and women who served our country. We appreciate everyone who gave their time today to help take care of it.

Thank you to our volunteers for showing up and getting it done. 🇺🇸

🌿 NADA Ear Acupuncture Returns September 29

NADA 5-Point Ear Acupuncture has been gaining interest, and another session is coming up Tuesday, September 29 at 10:00 AM at the Vet Center in Mio.

One of the things we appreciate about these sessions is that they aren't just for veterans.

🇺🇸 Veterans may find NADA helpful as a complementary wellness option for concerns such as stress, sleep disturbances, anxiety, anger, or pain.

💙 Veteran family members and caregivers are welcome too. Supporting and caring for a veteran can come with its own stresses, and taking time for your own wellness matters.

🤝 Veteran supporters are also welcome. While our mission will always center on serving veterans and their families, opportunities like this are one way our veteran community can connect with and give back to the broader community that supports them.

NADA sessions are offered by independent provider Jessyca (Neff) Livingston.

📅 Tuesday, September 29
⏰ 10:00 AM
📍 205 E. 11th Street, Mio
💲 $18 per session

For questions or additional information, contact Jessyca directly at [email protected].

Please note: NADA sessions are offered by an independent provider and are not an OCVA program.
