For those that are still without power, a warming shelter has been opened at the Mio Community Center located at 305 E 9th St, Mio Michigan. Use the warming shelter to warm up, charge electronic devices and fill water jugs.

The shelter will be open

Good morning,
We have seemed to dodge the worst of the storm. At this time we have only responded to one call for service. We do have some reported power outages. There is still a period of time to be concerned about. The wind is going to pick up and the trees are heavy. The temp is also going to drop as the day goes on. We are not in the clear yet. If you do not have to travel this morning please don’t. Roads are in pretty rough shape. The Oscoda County Road Commission is out clearing roads. Give them time and space to work.
If conditions change we will do our best to update you here and pass on any important information.

Stay safe!

Updated forecast! Live NWS briefing at 8:30. We are now included in the Ice Storm Warning until 8:00am tomorrow(3/16/2026)

**WE WILL BE DOING A FACEBOOK LIVE AT 8:30 PM 3/15/26 TO DISSCUSS THE LATEST FORECAST TRENDS!**

Latest observations and forecast trends are shifting the axis of heavy snow and ice further south than earlier expectations. This is putting areas between Leelanau and Cheboygan at risk of the highest snowfall totals by Monday morning, and where an additional 8-12 inches could fall by the time you wake up. The area at greatest risk of icing of 0.5 inch has now shifted closer to a Manton to Alpena line. Be prepared for poor travel conditions, whether you are in the snow area, sleet area, or freezing rain area – it’s all bad out there.

A few more reminders from our partners!

03/13/2026

🚨Good evening,
As you are all well aware, we are expected to get a significant winter storm this weekend. This is going to be a long duration event(3/14-3/16/2026). We are expecting all forms of precip at some point❄️ 🧊 🌧 💨
What amounts is yet to be determined as models are all over the place. Regardless there will be travel impacts and most likely power outages. A few safety reminders for the next few days and always:
🚨 Check to make sure your smoke and CO alarms are working.
🚨If using alternate heating sources make sure there is no combustible materials within 3ft of the device.
🚨Check your furnace exhaust points for snow and ice build up. These need to be able to vent properly.
🚨Check in on your neighbors and friends.

As always we are prepared and ready to respond should the need arise.

Take care and stay safe!

Last night (2/28/26) Tri-Town FD held its annual awards and appreciation banquet. 2025 was a historic year for the department. This was a great time for us to relax, enjoy some good company, laugh, cry, and give gifts and awards to those that made it possible.

This year awards belong to the following:
🚨2025 Firefighter of the Year - Mike Powell
🚨2025 Operator of the Year - Aaron Smith
🚨2025 Chiefs Award - Aaron Smith

Congratulations 🎉 to all on receiving these well deserved awards. Thank you to all of the members who made 2025 possible. And thank you to all of the support staff (board members, spouses, families) that are always working behind the scene’s.

We look forward to serving you in 2026!

02/07/2026

On 2/6/2026 at approximately 11:00pm Tri-Town FD was paged along with all other Oscoda County fire departments for a working structure fire. Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack and were forced out due to rapidly deteriorating conditions.

WORKING SMOKE DETECTORS SAVE LIVES!!!!
Due to working smoke detectors in the residence all occupants and animals were able to safely exit the house unharmed. PLEASE check and make sure your smoke alarms are functioning.

Tri-Town FD is still waiting for our shipment of smoke alarms to install at no cost to the public. When those arrive the individuals that have previously contacted the fire department, and are currently on our waiting list will be notified. Any extra smoke alarms will be made available to the public at that time.

THANK YOU
