Last week, Tia and Mo were out gathering sand for The Big Dig, our upcoming summer camp for kids ages 7-10. The sand will be used for hands-on activities designed to help campers learn, explore, create, and have fun while building a greater understanding of disabilities, accessibility, and inclusion.

A huge thank you to Sundre Sand & Gravel for donating the sand and helping make this camp possible. Community support like this helps us create meaningful experiences for the children and families we serve.

It takes a community to build opportunities, and we are grateful for partners who are willing to jump in and help.

This morning, our team took a walk together to the Minot Municipal Auditorium for one important reason: 𝐭𝐨 𝐕𝐎𝐓𝐄!

At Independence, Inc., we believe strong communities are built when people show up, get involved, and make their voices heard. Voting is one of the many ways we can all help shape the future of our community.

We're proud that our staff took the time to participate in today's election, and we encourage everyone who hasn't voted yet to make a plan to get to the polls.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐧𝐨𝐧𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐃𝐚𝐤𝐨𝐭𝐚 𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐦?

You realize you're not alone.

Last week, Scott, Jamie, and Tonya attended the NDANO Conference alongside nonprofit professionals from across the state. While our organizations may serve different communities and missions, many of us share the same challenges, the same hopes, and the same commitment to making life better for the people we serve.

Over two days, we learned, shared ideas, celebrated successes, discussed challenges, and gained new tools and resources to bring back to our work here in northwest North Dakota.

One of the most valuable reminders was that none of us do this work alone. Strong communities are built when people, organizations, and supporters come together with a shared purpose: helping others succeed.

We are grateful to North Dakota Association of Nonprofit Organizations for creating a space where nonprofit leaders can connect, learn from one another, and return home inspired and better equipped to serve their communities.

Thank you to our donors, supporters, community partners, and consumers who make this work possible. Everything we learn helps us continue building opportunities for independence, inclusion, and connection for the people we serve.

What can you make with a can of chicken? 🍽️

Quite a lot, actually.

Last week, Independence, Inc. partnered with Community Action Partnership - Minot Region (CAP) to host Pantry to Plate in our Building Dreams Community Kitchen. Together, we showed participants how a few simple pantry staples can become delicious, budget-friendly meals for themselves and their families.

Using canned chicken as our featured ingredient, participants learned how to make:
🍲 Chicken Noodle Soup
🍝 Chicken Alfredo
🌮 Chicken & Rice Taco Bowls

But Pantry to Plate is about more than cooking.

It's about building confidence in the kitchen, learning practical skills, stretching a grocery budget, and helping people live more independently.

A special thank you to Community Action Partnership for not only providing the ingredients for the demonstration, but also sending each participant home with everything they needed to recreate the meals on their own. That kind of partnership turns a one-day class into something that can make a lasting impact.

We are grateful to everyone who joined us and to the community partners who help make opportunities like this possible.

Because independence starts with the skills, knowledge, and support to succeed.

At Independence, Inc., we help people with disabilities move beyond low expectations and dependency to live independently and pursue their goals. Sometimes, though, our building and grounds need a little help too!

A huge thank you to the volunteers from City Serve ND who spent time helping us with projects around our facility yesterday. Their hard work and willingness to serve made a real difference.

City Serve ND connects volunteers with organizations and projects that strengthen communities across North Dakota. We are grateful they chose to invest their time and energy in Independence, Inc.

Community support like this helps us stay focused on what matters most, empowering people with disabilities to live independently.
