Minot police say burglars got away with a substantial amount of merchandise when they broke into a local retail establishment last weekend, and they think the public might be helpful in solving the case. Investigators say those who work in the hospitality industry in Minot may be of particular help to providing a break in the case.

Photos of the suspects and the vehicle used in the burglary (a late model silver Toyota Sienna) are included in this post.

The break-in was discovered Saturday morning, September 18, 2021.

A press release from the Minot Police department states that the burglars made away with a significant amount of merchandise. "Our investigation has revealed that the burglars in this case have been targeting similar retail stores throughout the country."

The release goes on to say that The Minot Police Department has reason to believe these suspects spent time in the Minot area in preparation for this burglary.

As a result, authorities are asking the public and specifically, area hospitality businesses, to review pictures of two suspects and their vehicle.

"These two subjects and their associates may have stayed in an area hotel, eaten at an area restaurant, or frequented other area businesses," the statement says. "We are looking for any information or surveillance video of these two, their associates, or vehicle."

We asked for the name of the business that was burglarized as well as a description of the items stolen, but a spokesman with the Minot Police Department stated they cannot release that information at this time due to constraints created by Marsy's Law.

𝘔𝘪𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦𝘨𝘪𝘯 𝘖𝘶𝘵𝘥𝘰𝘰𝘳 𝘞𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘚𝘺𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘮 𝘵𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘴 𝘯𝘦𝘹𝘵 𝘸𝘦𝘦𝘬.

Beginning May 10th, Minot Central Dispatch will begin running regularly scheduled audible tests for the Minot Area Outdoor Warning System as well as the sirens within Ward County. These tests will be run on the second and last Monday of each month at 9:30 AM. The audible tests will continue through the summer months and are scheduled to conclude in October.

There will be one variation to the regular schedule in May when the last Monday of the month falls on the Memorial Day Holiday. To avoid any interruption to the Memorial Day ceremonies on May 31st, the test will be run the next day on Tuesday, June 1st, at 9:30 AM.

During the regularly scheduled tests, residents will hear ten second High/Low tones followed by a voice message given over the public address system. The tones and message will be repeated three times. The cable TV interrupt system will also be tested as the outdoor warning system audible test is being sounded.

Officials are warning Minot residents to be aware that there are two men pretending to be employees with the City of Minot’s water and sewer department who say they need to enter homes to check water meters.

“We don’t typically show up unannounced. Something like could happen in an emergency, like when there’s a water main break in the area, but even that would be very unusual,” said John Reynolds, superintendent of the City’s water and sewer department.

If City of Minot employees come to a home or business, they will be wearing City of Minot apparel like a yellow vest with the City logo, and will be driving a City of Minot vehicle with the City’s official logo on the side.

“Typically, residents start the process themselves by calling us to report a problem with their meter,” said Reynolds. “When they call us, we’ll set up an appointment and send a crew out at that time. We don’t go around changing or checking water meters for no reason.”

If a resident feels at all uncomfortable, they should ask the visitors for identification, or ask for the phone number of the Water Department (857-4150), then call the department to verify the visitor’s name. If a resident still feels uncomfortable, they should not let the visitors into their home or business.

Reynolds said crews do not need to enter a home to read the meter; that process can be done electronically from outside the home.

If residents suspect the visit is a scam, they should call the Minot Police Department at 852-0111to report the incident. Any information residents can provide, such as a vehicle license plate number or description of the visitors, would be helpful to police.

ALL RESIDENTS SAFE AFTER FIRE DESTROYS APARTMENT BUILDING

Fire destroyed an apartment building in downtown Minot early Wednesday, displacing residents from the structure’s 28 units.
The Minot Fire Department responded to a call at 12:02 a.m. Wednesday of a large fire at the
Hall’s Apartments, located at the intersection of Third Avenue SE and Second Street SE. En-
gines from all four Minot fire stations responded, including more than 30 Fire Department personnel.
Minot Fire Chief Kelli Kronschnabel said the Fire Department has verified that all of the building’s occupants are safe. The building, built in 1916, contains 28 units; 26 units were occupied.
Six firefighters received treatment for minor injuries.
“I’m very thankful all the tenants were able to evacuate safely,” Kronschnabel said. “We will
continue to communicate with them as we determine if it’s safe to allow them to go back into the building to retrieve any belongings.”
Kronschnabel said the fire was under control by approximately 8 a.m., although some hot spots remained as of late Wednesday afternoon.
Firefighters and law enforcement will remain on scene throughout the night.
Kronschnabel said she’s thankful for assistance from Milton Young Towers, Community Ambulance, Red Cross, Xcel Energy, MDU, the Ward County Sheriff’s Department, the Minot Police Department, the City’s water and street departments, and other agencies.
An insurance company investigator is on scene, and Kronschnabel said a structural engineer will determine if the Fire Department will be allowed into the building to continue its investigation.

VANDALS HIT DOWNTOWN MINOT

On February 22, officers responded to a report of a vehicle parked downtown with a broken window due to a brick being thrown through it. While officers were on scene, it was observed that three vehicles in the same parking-lot had their tires slashed.
Multiple businesses downtown also had their windows broken. Later in the day officers responded to additional complaints of windows being broken in NW Minot. No arrests have been made at this point and the incidents are being investigated.

CARBON MONOXIDE INCIDENT SENDS TWO TO HOSPITAL

A carbon monoxide incident in a northwest Minot home on Sunday resulted in two people being transported to the hospital.
After arriving on the scene, Minot Fire Department personnel found two adult occupants of the home unconscious and breathing. The occupants were rushed to Trinity Hospital, and then flown to a Minneapolis facility for treatment.
The source of the carbon monoxide buildup is believed to be a faulty heating appliance in the home’s basement.
“The Minot Fire Department recommends all residents have carbon monoxide detectors on every level of their home,” said Assistant Fire Chief Lonnie Sather. “Carbon monoxide is odorless and colorless, so installing these detectors is the only way to monitor it. If you do have a detector and it sounds an alarm, evacuate the building immediately and call the fire department.”
Carbon monoxide is formed by the incomplete combustion of fuel. The Centers for Disease Control estimates that 430 people die from carbon monoxide poisoning each year in the United States.
