I hope everyone had a Happy Easter and the weather is warming up. However, the forecast for our meeting date is not good so we will be inside for the April meeting of the Minnetonka Minnesota Amateur Radio Club on April 13, 2026 in our normal room. Warmer weather is still afoot so let us plan some outdoor activities, and prepare for out outdoor meetings as spring progresses.

The Minnetonka Minnesota Amateur Radio Club meets in the Oak Knoll room at the Minnetonka Community Center. The monthly meeting will be on Monday April 13 at 10:00AM as usual.

Not a member, no problem everyone is welcome so swing on by and see what we are all about. In the past we have helped a number of people get their ham radio license, so do not let that stop you.

The Minnetonka community center address is:
14600 Minnetonka Blvd Minnetonka MN 55345

The Community center is just north of Minnetonka Blvd, one light west of I494 and we are in the Oak Knoll room on the lower level. As always, you do not need to be a ham radio operator to join us.
Hope you can all make it on Monday April 13, 2026 at 10:00AM.

On Saturday February 7 2026 the Minnetonka Minnesota Amateur Radio Club participated in the Minnesota QSO party and had an exultant time. Our new antennas worked out well and we were able to get a claimed score of 2610 points which is the highest score of the 5 QSO parties we have participated in. In addition to working the radio a large number of club members stopped by and the social part of the contest added to the event and it was great to see everyone and make them talk on the radio. In all the club looks forward to participating in next years contest which will be on Saturday February 6, 2027 along with other radio contest that are to be determined. Attached are some photos of a couple of us working the club station (located in the Minnetonka MN Community Center) radio and logging the contacts.

The Minnetonka Minnesota Amateur Radio Club meets every Second Monday at 10:00AM in the Minnetonka Community Center (located just west of I494 on Minnetonka Blvd) in Oak Knoll room and anyone is invited to swing on by to check us out, you do not need to be a Ham to join as we have helped several members get their license. While the time does not work out for most non-retired persons we have attempted to hold evening meetings, however, the attendance at those attempts was very poor. We will continue to hold an occasional evening session and will do more if there is interest.

02/06/2026

Saturday is the Minnesota QSO party and the Minnetonka Minnesota Amateur Radio Club will be active from our station in the Minnetonka Community Center starting at about 9:00AM.
Pastries and juice will be provided so swing on by and help us put some points on the board.

The festivities will start at 9:00AM and generally wrap up about 2:00PM so swing on by to chat and work the contest (do not worry we will help those that need experience). I will be bringing in pastries and lemonade (coffee is on you own) as an incentive for you to stop by early while they are still there. A reminder you do not need to be a member of the Minnetonka Minnesota Radio Club, or even a ham, to join us for this we welcome anyone to check us out on Saturday February 7, 2026 from 9:00 AM until about 2:00PM at the Minnetonka Community Center Oak Knoll room (directions in the next announcement).

Wow, Fall with 54F temps to winter with 4” of snow and sub zero temps in one week. But lets warm op the airwaves with the December meeting of the Minnetonka Minnesota Amateur Radio Club on December 8, 2025 in our normal room.

Training on the use of the wire antenna sill be available for when we get that working.

In addition our annual elections for officer positions. The club works best if everyone steps in at some time to help and now is that time. We urgently need a secretary as our current member is becoming unable to fill that role. I supply that position with a copy of the agenda that I use to make it easier to just fill in any discussion and publish it, so please step up. Other positions up for re-election are President, and Vice-president. The position of treasurer will remain with our current treasurer for efficiency so as to not have to re-do all of the banking paperwork.

A little late, but I have been busy. Here are some images from our antenna replacement adventure done on October 13. We were having problems with our old antennas as it seemed like at least one of the traps on our vertical was not working and the trap dipole did not tune 80 meters well. We removed the vertical and installed a Zero5 which looks like it working as advertised and attempted to replace the dipole with a long wire driven by a MFJ feed point tuner. As it turns out the lighting arrester does not pass DC so we are unable to power the unit unit until I get a chance to get back up and remove it which should happen in a week or two.

Fall is here along with colder weather. However, the main reason to be back in the Community Center is to install the new station antennas! Therefore, the October meeting of the Minnetonka Minnesota Amateur Radio Club on October 13, 2025 in our normal room.

EXTRA NOTICE:
After the meeting (about 11:00 AM) Don Rice will be on hand to help us replace our current HF vertical and wire antennas. If able you can stick around and help wherever we will be allowed to be.

The forecast looks good, so let us enjoy the outdoors at least one last time for the season, and have the next meeting of the Minnetonka Minnesota Amateur Radio Club outside (unless rain is actually happening). We will gather at the picnic pavilion at Meadow park.

This pavilion is easily reached from an ample parking, however, it only 4 small picnic tables so if you can bring your own chair that would be a good idea. The meeting will be at the regular time of 10:00 AM on Monday September 8, 2025.

To get to Meadow park take Plymouth road north from Minnetonka Blvd, Plymouth road T’s onto Minnetonka Blvd so you cannot go the wrong way. One block north take a left onto Oakland Road (as if going to the Burwell House) and continue north. About 1/3 mile after crossing the railroad tracks you will see the park entrance on the left. Also, because I can reach 146.520 (no tone) where I can provide a talk in to help you along if needed.

Hope to see many of you there. Should there be rain we will revert to the normal indoor location at the Minnetonka Community Center. If you have a question that morning (after 9:30AM) call on the talk in frequency of the 2 meter simplex 146.520.

Thanks,
Mark, KC0ITP
