St Edward Catholic School staff recently participated in ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) active-threat response training. The training provided practical strategies to help staff respond quickly and protect students during a critical incident. Thank you to Sergeant Sandgren of the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Detective Sandgren of the Marshall Police Department and Chief RedLegs for providing this exposure training.

🚲🛴 RIDE SMART. RIDE SAFE. MINNEOTA!

The Minneota Police Department would like to remind parents, guardians, and young riders that e-bikes and e-scooters are becoming an increasingly popular way to get around our community. With that popularity comes an important responsibility: knowing the law and making safety a priority.

Minnesota statutes establish rules for the operation of electric-assisted bicycles and motorized foot scooters, including requirements involving age, helmets, passengers, where they may be ridden, speed, equipment, and safe operation. These laws aren't simply rules to follow—they are intended to help protect our children and everyone who shares our streets, sidewalks, trails, and intersections.

Parents and guardians, please take a few minutes to review the attached flyer with your children. Make sure they understand the rules before they head out. A helmet, paying attention at intersections, yielding to others, avoiding headphones, and watching for vehicles and pedestrians can make the difference between a fun ride and a serious accident.

We also ask motorists to do their part. Slow down, stay alert, and give bicyclists and other riders the space they need. Safety is a shared responsibility.

Our goal isn't simply enforcement—it's preventing an injury before it happens. Please help us keep Minneota's kids safe by teaching them to ride responsibly, respect others, and follow Minnesota law.

Not all plastic belongs in your recycling cart — and putting the wrong items in can contaminate a whole batch of recyclables.

❌ NOT recyclable (even though they're plastic):
Plastic flower pots • Motor oil containers • RV antifreeze containers - Pesticide/chemical containers • Plastic toys • Garden hoses - Plastic bags and film • Pet food bags • Solar salt bags

✅ YES, these are recyclable (clean and empty):
Water, soda, and juice bottles • Milk jugs • Laundry detergent bottles - Shampoo and conditioner bottles • Yogurt, margarine, and cottage cheese tubs

Before you recycle:
1. Empty all contents 2. Give containers a quick rinse 3. Do NOT bag your recyclables — no loose bags or film in the cart or at a community dropsite

SCAM ALERT: This has occurred in Minneota to one of our citizens.

The email or text you received claiming you bought a rifle from "Springfield Armory" through PayPal is a widespread phishing and refund scam.

No money has actually been taken from your account.Scammers send these realistic-looking fake invoices for hundreds of dollars because the shock of a firearm purchase frightens people into reacting immediately. Furthermore, PayPal completely prohibits the sale or purchase of all fi****ms, making a real transaction like this impossible on the platform.

How the Scam WorksThe Bait: You receive an email or PDF invoice stating a charge (often $300 to $900) to "Springfield Armory Inc" or a misspelled variation.

The Panic: The message urges you to call a specific customer support number within 24 hours if you "did not authorize this transaction".

The Trap: If you call the number, you do not reach PayPal. Fake agents will try to steal your personal financial information, sell you gift cards, or trick you into downloading remote-access software to "process a refund".

Action Steps to Stay Safe
Do not call the number listed in the email.
Do not click any links or download attachments.
Check your actual account by opening a web browser or the official app directly.
Do not use the email to log in. You will see that no such transaction exists.
Forward the email to [email protected] or [email protected] to report it.
Delete the email immediately after forwarding it.
