Congratulations Gloria!

Gloria Erickson is retiring after over a decade guiding Dovetail’s community based wildfire resiliency work as the Minnesota Fire Adapted Communities Project Coordinator. Gloria’s work empowering landowners, coordinating partners, and guiding planning efforts has been instrumental in increasing the resiliency of communities across Minnesota’s Arrowhead and deepening our understanding of how to thrive in fire adapted forests.

Dovetail Partners Awarded Grant to Support Wildfire Community Preparedness Day Efforts

Dovetail Partners has been selected as one of nineteen community-based organizations nationwide to receive a $10,000 grant in support of Wildfire Community Preparedness Day. Sponsored by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and State Farm, this annual campaign encourages people in wildfire prone areas to take action to reduce risk to their homes and communities.

Grant recipients were announced at the IAFC Wildland Urban Interface Conference, following a competitive process that drew more than 100 applications. Selected organizations will use funding to implement community-driven projects that promote wildfire risk reduction.

In and About the Woods -
Each month, Dovetail team members are invited to share what they are seeing, doing, or experiencing in and around the woods, from personal land to public green spaces and places they visit.

Time spent outdoors has a way of leaving a lasting impression. Whether it’s a timber wolf moving silently past Mark’s trail cam or other unexpected wildlife encounters, these moments capture the sense of wonder and connection our team finds in nature.

Today we’re spotlighting the Non-Federal Career Pathways into Forestry Blog Series!

The Society of American Foresters’ Career Center partnered with , the U.S. Forests and Wood Products Sector Inclusion Council, Dovetail Partners Inc., and the U.S. Endowment to produce this blog series. It explores careers beyond traditional federal forestry roles, highlighting opportunities in private industry, nonprofits, Tribal organizations, consulting, and related sectors. The series shares real-world experiences and practical guidance for students, early- and mid-career professionals, and anyone considering a forestry career.

Blog 1 opens with:

"When students talk about careers in forestry or natural resources, one role comes up again and again: park ranger. It makes sense. Forestry is often associated with being outdoors all day, working independently, and spending quiet time among the trees.

But forestry is much bigger than that single image.”

Check out a new commentary by Kathryn Fernholz, "Is a Bioeconomy Still a Viable Strategy?"

The United States leads the global bioeconomy, valued at nearly $1 trillion and poised to capture a share of the $4 trillion in projected global economic activity over the next decade. With strong scientific capacity, natural resources, and manufacturing infrastructure, the U.S. is well positioned for continued growth. Realizing this potential will require clearer policy direction, targeted investment, and greater coordination
across sectors.
