In Minneapolis, workers are still recovering from the devastating financial and psychological impacts of Operation Metro Surge. As our communities continue to heal, we must also take action to ensure that terror campaigns like this one never happen again.

That’s why CTUL Action Fund started our Leaders In Action program. We’re helping workers get the tools and skills they need to speak up for themselves and speak out against authoritarianism.

This weekend, our cohort of worker-leaders will meet for their third training, focused on organizing across race, class, and all things meant to keep us divided. As we approach the midterm elections, these worker leaders will put their skills to work to ensure that local, state, and national politicians are chosen by us, not bought by billionaires.

[English below] Por qué es importante votar en las elecciones primarias? Las elecciones pueden afectar muchos aspectos de nuestras vidas: desde la atención médica y la vivienda hasta el ámbito laboral y la aplicación de las leyes de inmigración. Las primarias son nuestra oportunidad de asegurarnos de que la voz de los trabajadores se escuche en las urnas.
A continuación, te presentamos tres pasos sencillos para participar en las elecciones primarias del 11 de agosto: 
    ✅Decide si quieres votar hoy por adelantado o mañana, el día de las elecciones.
    ✅Averigua quiénes son los candidatos que aparecen en tu boleta electoral este año, desde las elecciones para el consejo municipal hasta los candidatos al Senado de los Estados Unidos.

CTUL AF’s and CTUL’s 2026 co-hosted Gala: “Worker Power Means All of Us”

CTUL Action Fund’s Leaders in Action Program (LIA) is a new series of trainings that equips low-wage workers to be leaders in their workplaces, communities, and government. Over the next three months, workers will dig deep on how we organize across race and class, pro-worker policy advocacy, voter engagement, and building a strong election defense plan alongside partners in our ecosystem. Mark your calendars to celebrate the graduation of the first LIA cohort!

[Español abajo] Even if you didn’t watch Trump’s speech on Thursday, you’ve probably already heard what he said. We’ve spent six years hearing the same tired lies about our elections—lies that are supposed to make us fear our neighbors and distrust the voting process. 

But if anyone knows how to stand up to Trump’s intimidation tactics, it’s Minnesotan workers. Workers will not be intimidated out of voting. 

Have you voted in Minnesota’s primary yet? Election day is Aug 11, but early voting has been underway since June 26th. For more information on early voting including your polling location, visit: https://vote.minneapolismn.gov/voters/.

[Español abajo] On Saturday we launched our inaugural Leaders in Action training cohort! 15 worker-leaders gathered to kick off the 4-month program designed to equip workers with the organizing and advocacy skills and tools necessary to protect our democracy and proactively resist authoritarianism. 

Ericka, a roofer and a longtime worker leader of CTUL, said:  “I love to keep learning more about my rights in the workplace. We workers have a lot of rights and I have seen them written down in a list but it is not enough to just read about them. Saturday was an opportunity to discuss them with other workers and practice defending them together. This training gave me the tools to keep advancing as a worker and a leader.”

¡El sábado lanzamos nuestra primera cohorte del programa de capacitación «Líderes en Acción»! Quince líderes sindicales se reunieron para dar inicio al programa de cuatro meses, diseñado para dotar a los trabajadores de las habilidades y herramientas de organización y defensa necesarias para proteger nuestra democracia y resistir de manera proactiva al autoritarismo.

Today we are announcing the launch of CTUL AF’s Leaders in Action (LIA) program! The entire country witnessed how workers led the resistance against the lawlessness and violence of ICE and DHS in Minnesota this past winter. Now, we have an opportunity to shape how we move forward, and make sure that workers are equipped to once again lead the way.  

The LIA program will equip leaders with the skills to organize in their neighborhoods and workplaces, advocate for a working people’s policy agenda, and move people into action at key moments. The LIA program is built on a simple concept: if we want to build power, then we have to organize and practice democracy in every part of our lives, from our worksites to the ballot box. [Español abajo] Today, Mayor Jacob Frey vetoed a measure that would extend the eviction notification timeline in Minneapolis from 30 to 45 days. Esmeralda, a roofer and member of CTUL Action Fund, testified at the Minneapolis City Council meeting on April 21st, alongside many other workers and community members.
 
In her testimony, Esmeralda shared how she and her partner have been out of work because of Operation Metro Surge for over four months and how extending the eviction timeline will be life-saving for her family and so many other working families like hers.

Today she reacts to Jacob Frey’s decision to veto the measure: “It feels like the mayor isn’t listening to us, like he values other voices more than those who are suffering the worst impacts of Operation Metro Surge.”

Hoy, el alcalde Jacob Frey vetó una medida que habría ampliado el plazo de notificación de desalojo en Minneapolis de 30 a 45 días. Esmeralda, rufera y miembra del CTUL Fondo de Acción, testificó en la sesión del Concejo Municipal de Minneapolis del 21 de abril, junto con muchos otros trabajadores y miembros de la comunidad.

[Español abajo] Neighbors across the Twin Cities are facing the threat of eviction this month as working families are struggling to make ends meet in the wake of Operation Metro Surge. Here are two things you can do NOW to support those at risk of eviction: 

1️⃣Familiarize yourself with the Minneapolis Eviction Timeline and ensure your neighbors are keeping their eyes peeled for eviction notices in the mail. 
2️⃣Reach out to your state rep today via http://bit.ly/MNRentReliefNow. Representatives need to hear from people across the state telling them that we need rental relief NOW.

Este mes, vecinos de toda la zona de las Ciudades Gemelas se enfrentan a la amenaza de desalojo, mientras las familias trabajadoras luchan por llegar a fin de mes tras la «Operación Metro Surge».
