Twenty-eight years ago, Sr. Rose Tillemans, CSJ, opened a storefront at 510 East Franklin Avenue, Minneapolis to give folks who feel they have nowhere to belong, A PLACE TO BELONG. Sister Rose is no longer with us, however our ministry of hospitality continues – being with women and men who are often shunned by their families and their community because of their mental illness, their debilitating
addictions and endless poverty. Peace House Community is not about results or statistics or programs. It is about learning “to be with” people in their suffering and in their joy. It is a place where everyone who is drug free and with a spirit of nonviolence is welcomed, listened to and treated with respect. Each person is helped to find the dignity that the circumstances of their lives have taken away. No one is judged for his or her mistakes but for their wisdom. Volunteer and community members alike become wiser as we listen to each other. Please come to our new home at 1816 Portland Avenue, Minneapolis and join us for meditation and prayer at 11:30 AM every Monday through Friday followed by a shared community meal. The heart of our simple philosophy and mission is affirming one another through listening, praising the divinity that lives in each of us and praying for the well being of our world and ourselves.
