SURJ TC: Showing Up for Racial Justice - Twin Cities

SURJ TC: Showing Up for Racial Justice - Twin Cities SURJ-TC organizes white people to build the political will needed to end white supremacy Everyone is welcome to attend our meetings.

SURJ MN is a local Minnesota Chapter of Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ). SURJ is a national network of groups and individuals organizing white people for racial justice. Through community organizing, mobilizing, and education, SURJ moves white people to act as part of a multi-racial majority for justice with passion and accountability. We work to connect people across the country while suppor

ting and collaborating with local and national racial justice organizing efforts. SURJ provides a space to build relationships, skills and political analysis to act for change. We envision a society where we struggle together with love, for justice, human dignity and a sustainable world. We have some biracial people who are part of the group and we have had people of color attend, though usually just out of curiosity to see what all these white folks are up to. While everyone is welcome, the programming is specifically designed for white folks. White people have been told for years by POC activists that we need to educate and organize our own people. So that's what we try to do at SURJ MN. Our education events focus on educating white people about white supremacy, and the ways in which whites are advantaged by white supremacist structures and can use their positionality to work against those structures. In our action planning, we consider what kinds of actions we might be best positioned to carry out as white people in the fight for racial justice (either because of access or resources or social networks). So, certainly anyone is welcome to attend our events. But they are definitely intended as spaces to educate and organize people who are generally perceived by others as white. Minnesotans showed up this May Day because we know silence from powerful corporations has consequences.

When Operation Metro Surge harmed workers, families, and neighborhoods, Target chose silence over leadership. Now, as attacks on voting rights and democratic freedoms escalate, communities across Minnesota are organizing again. We are building the pressure, building the coalition, and building the future we deserve.

Coming together to witness and process what the Twin Cities has been through this winter and find collective energy to move into action this spring!

Target pressed charges against a group of citizens peacefully seated in the Dinkytown Target on 2/11/26 (but not against several others taking the same action at the same time). The citizens were raising awareness that Target cares more about profits than speaking out against injustice inflicted on their own employees. Target remained silent when ICE illegally and violently abducted two employees working at the Richfield Target on 1/8/26. They allowed ICE to stage in Target parking lots during ICE’s surge in MN. They donated $1M to Trump’s inauguration. Target allows criminal charges and arrests against citizens peacefully drawing awareness to injustice and stays silent in the face of violence and harm by the Trump administration. We are encouraging Target to stand with the people and not with Trump.
