Honoring Women Veterans! 🎉

Members of the DAV of Minnesota Women Veterans Committee are handing out cookies today at the Minneapolis VA and CBOCs across Minnesota in celebration of Women Veterans Recognition Day.

Today, June 12, marks the 1948 signing of the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act, which allowed women to serve permanently in the U.S. military. Thank you to all the trailblazing women who have served our country!

🎉 Congratulations to Employee of the Month ~ Administrative 🎉

Timothy Arnold, Medical Record Technician

Tim has been with the Release of Information Office for 15 years and receives accolades and gratuitous remarks all of the time. He consistently demonstrates exceptional dedication, resilience, and enthusiasm, exceeding his job description in his efforts to support Veterans. One of his most notable achievements is completing nearly 700 Release of Information requests in a month, with an average turnaround time of less than one day. He not only troubleshoots these problems with patience but also does so with a positive attitude that boosts team morale. His resilience and resourcefulness have been crucial in ensuring our operations run smoothly, even under pressure.

🍩 Happy National Donut Day! 🍩

We’re celebrating a sweet tradition with The Salvation Army, who are here handing out donuts this morning at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center. Donut Day began in 1938 to honor the “Donut Lassies” who served treats to soldiers during WWI.

Stop by while supplies last and remember the heroes who inspired this delicious tradition!

🎉 Congratulations to Employee of the Month ~ Clinic 🎉
Jaquette Powell, RN in Specialty Cardiology

Jaquetta consistently serves as the grounding force who brings stability, cohesion, and humanity to our cardiology service line. Clinically, she is the coordinating force behind our cardiology procedures, ensuring precision, seamless communication, and an unwavering focus on Veteran centered care. But just as importantly, she is also the coordinator of something far less tangible and far more powerful: our department's culture. Some might say she manages workflow and heart flow in equal measure. Her leadership is quiet but unmistakably woven into both the clinical excellence she delivers and the way she supports the people around her.

We couldn’t have asked for better weather for our 4th Annual Spinal Cord Injury and Disorder Center Inpatient Baseball Game!

Veteran patients, recreational therapists, and even our Center’s chief all “stepped up to the plate” for a fun day out in the sun —getting some swings, enjoying the fresh air, and benefiting from the exercise. Events like these are not just a hit, but also support recovery and overall wellbeing. Thanks to everyone who made it a home run for our community!
