MCF-Moose Lake recently recognized 19 graduates from the Native American Culture and Education Program (NACEP). The curriculum was developed at MCF-Lino Lakes in 2023 by an incarcerated individual along with the facility’s Chaplain. The program has expanded to other facilities and approximately 350 men have now completed the program. Participants learned about the stories, dances, ceremonies, powwow traditions, language, history, heritage, and formative laws from their native traditions. Chi-miigwech to all who support and make these opportunities possible!

We are grateful to the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) for investing in culturally specific housing and community wellness. With MDH’s support, we’ve been able to grow our land-based camp program, which follows the rhythm of the seasons through activities like wild ricing, netting fish, and harvesting maple syrup.

These camps also create space for living in a ceremonial way, with opportunities to participate in cultural traditions such as sweat lodge, jiisakaan, and the Ogichidaa ceremony. Together, we are strengthening community and honoring our way of life.

Housing is the foundation of public health. Without a safe place to sleep and live, overcoming other challenges like substance use can feel nearly impossible...

Bob recently took a couple clients to a food sovereignty symposium in Michigan where they learned about Ojibwe traditional medicines/food and how to care for plants this weekend through experiential learning.
