Today, we pause to honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

To all who are remembering someone they love today: we are grateful, and we remember with you.

Wishing everyone a meaningful Memorial Day.

Today we honor the brave service members who fought and made the ultimate sacrifice for this nation. We are thankful for their service.

From a county perspective, this is a huge win. The MAXIS system is outdated and no longer meets staff's or resident's needs. I am excited to see what updates are made in the next few years, and hope that Hennepin County and the Association of Minnesota Counties can play a part in the decision-making processes.

Workers expect this will eventually speed up the enrollment process for safety net programs and help relieve the pressure they’re under to comply with new federal requirements.

Thank you to the Minnesota legislature for passing financial support for HCMC that prevents closure of the hospital. HCMC is a vital part of Minnesota’s healthcare system. It serves everyone who walks through its doors, regardless of their ability to pay, and provides care that communities across our state depend on every day.

This agreement provides a temporary runway, but it does not yet provide the long-term stability needed to fully secure the future of the hospital. HCMC continues to face ongoing structural financial pressures that will not be solved with a one-time agreement or short-term funding solution. I am optimistic that because this legislation sets up a task force to continue the work of identifying and solving these issues, we will find a solution that provides stable, ongoing funding that accounts for the scale of service the hospital provides our state.

That long-term certainty matters for more than budgets. It matters for the patients who rely on this hospital, and for the doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals we are asking to commit their careers here for years to come. We cannot expect people to make long-term commitments without confidence that the hospital will have the sustainable support needed to continue operating and growing into the future.

Passing this legislation was no easy lift, and I am so grateful to legislators for supporting a bipartisan agreement that benefits all Minnesotans and the region. Thank you to our Hennepin County staff, community partners, and residents for your advocacy.

Despite it being a tremendously difficult year for counties like Hennepin County Government, I continue to be so proud of the work we do for residents. Thank you Commissioner Fernando for giving a wonderful State of the County address.

Enter exhibits X, Y, and Z for why HCMC, which is picking up this slack for the rest of the state, needs to state support. Call/email your legislators now to tell them to pass sustainable funding now to keep this asset open.
Starting next year, due to impacts of HR1 and aging infrastructure, the hospital will need to make up over $300 million annually in uncompensated needs.

We can’t cut that much and stay open.

A Minnesota Star Tribune-KFF Health News investigation of hospital data and charity care programs shows most Minnesota hospitals provide little financial aid to patients and often make assistance difficult to get.

If you drove on Dayton River Road this week, you probably saw Hennepin County crews planting trees on a lot next to the Mississippi River. I stopped by to learn about the project and plant a few trees.

This lot is owned by Three Rivers Park District and they asked the us to help plant climate adaptive trees. Of course we said yes because Hennepin County has a goal of planting 1 million trees by 2030.

Shoutout to our forestry department for all of the awesome work they do! More information about that work here:

On Tuesday, the Hennepin County Board recognized April 30th as Therapy Animal Day in Hennepin County. To help us highlight how important animals are to human health and well-being, North Star Therapy Animals of Pet Partners joined us with a few furry friends. I'd be lying if I said we didn't look forward to this day every year.

Congratulations City of Rogers, MN - Government on the groundbreaking of your new senior apartments and community center on Main Street.

Affordable housing, particularly for seniors, is in extreme demand both locally and regionally and this project provides needed homes close to services and community amenities. All 40 units in this building will be set aside for age 55+ households at 50% of the area median income.

I'm proud of Hennepin County Government's involvement in this project through our Hennepin Planning Grant program and our Environmental Response Fund.

Way to go Rogers on another step in advancing the city's Main Street Master Plan vision!

Today, my office received communication from the Hennepin County Sheriff’s office regarding a bomb threat at Rockford High School. Our Sheriff’s office responded immediately, along with several local and state agencies.

Students and staff were safely evacuated and the security sweeps conducted found no explosives. Staff and students were able to return to the school. The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation.

I want to express my utmost gratitude to Sheriff Witt and her Department for their hard, diligent work ensuring everyone’s safety. We truly cannot thank them enough.
