To the residents of our Village,

The Administrator and I are working hard every day to make our community a better place to live, work, and raise a family. We are actively pursuing every funding opportunity and grant available to help improve our Village while keeping costs to the Village and its residents as low as possible.

As the saying goes, Rome wasn’t built in a day. Meaningful progress takes time, but progress is being made. Roads are being addressed. Dilapidated buildings and blighted properties are being tackled. Infrastructure improvements, demolitions where necessary, and efforts to attract new businesses remain top priorities.

Regarding legal matters, lawsuits, and other ongoing issues, they are what they are, and many of them take time to work through. What I can say is that I ran for Mayor to make a difference and to do the best job I can for all residents. I knew there would be criticism, disagreements, and accusations along the way. That’s part of public service.

However, I have little respect for those who hide behind anonymous social media accounts to make accusations and personal attacks. If you have concerns, questions, or suggestions, I encourage you to bring them forward openly and constructively.

Many of the individuals who spend time criticizing others would be better served focusing on issues within their own control and helping improve our community. Real progress comes from working together, taking responsibility, and being part of the solution rather than simply criticizing from the sidelines.

There are always different perspectives. As the saying goes, there is your truth, their truth, and then there is the truth. My focus remains on serving this Village and moving it forward.

It has been 863 days since I took office, and for the next 567 days, I will continue working for the residents who elected me. I am not perfect, and I have never claimed to be. But I can honestly say that I am doing my best every day to fulfill the responsibilities you entrusted to me.

People may choose to criticize, berate, or belittle me. I cannot control that. What I can control is my commitment to this community and the work that needs to be done.

Road improvements, infrastructure, addressing blight, holding property owners accountable, attracting new businesses, and improving our Village remain the priorities of my administration.

If you have questions, concerns, or suggestions, please attend our meetings, call Village Hall, or reach out to us. Your input is always welcome.

Thank you for your continued support as we work together to build a stronger Village.

Sincerely,
Judy L Ruckman, Mayor

“Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid.
They have earned our undying gratitude. America will never forget their sacrifices.”— Harry S. Truman

I was truly humbled to speak at our Memorial Ceremony today.

The following war death totals, according to the United States Congress, are almost unimaginable… when we truly stop to listen… reflect… and understand the cost.

Revolutionary War — 4,435
War of 1812 — 2,260
Mexican War — 13,283
Civil War — Union Forces:364,511
Confederate Forces: estimated between 330,000 and 450,000
Spanish-American War — 2,446
World War One — 116,516
World War Two — 405,399
Korean War — 36,574
Vietnam War — 58,220

Iranian Hostage Rescue Operation — 8
Lebanon Peacekeeping Mission — 265
Grenada — 19
Panama — 23
Desert Shield and Desert Storm — 383
Somalia — 43
Haiti — 4
Operation Enduring Freedom — 2,349
Operation Iraqi Freedom — 4,418
Operation New Dawn — 74
Operation Inherent Resolve — 96
Operation Freedom’s Sentinel — 93
Current Iran Operation — 14
In addition, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency currently lists more than 81,000 souls… still missing in action.

Like many of you here today, several of my friends and relatives have served this country in uniform.
And I am extremely grateful… that they all made it home.

But such is likely not the case for all of us gathered here today.
And that is why we pay tribute… to those who gave all.

They paid the ultimate price for the freedoms we cherish… and for the way of life we enjoy.
We must always remember them.

Today is about gratitude.
It is about honoring the men and women who believed in the American dream strongly enough… to defend it.

Because of them, we are able to go about our daily lives in freedom and peace.
The opportunities we enjoy each day were protected by their courage… their dedication… and their willingness to serve something greater than themselves.

We are able to gather here today because of their sacrifices — sacrifices that have continued for nearly two and a half centuries.

After we leave here today, some of us will have cookouts.
Some will visit family and friends for dinner and conversation.
And some will simply enjoy a day away from work.
There is nothing wrong with that.

But we should always keep the meaning of this day… front of mind.
Not only today… but every day.

One of the best ways we can honor their legacy is to pay it forward… by serving others in our own communities.
Whether it is helping a neighbor… volunteering… picking up litter… supporting a veteran… or simply showing kindness to someone in need…
We can all do our part to be good stewards of the freedoms and values for which they gave the ultimate sacrifice to protect.

I recall the following Bible passage… with a universal message:

“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”— John 15:13

May God bless our military…
our veteran and the United States of America.

Mayor, Judy Ruckman
